My 10R80 runs great in the winter, but come summer it is seriously bipolar! My hydraulic hoses for my Bendpak lift finally arrived and they will be going on shortly. First up is change the oil in the CX-5, then it is PPE transmission pan replacement time with new ULV and fliter.

The unanswered questions: How much better does the tranny shift and/or how much cooler does it run, just because you changed the pan?

Ford tends to be rather forgiving about after-market items installed on their vehicles, due in part, to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. But there is a limit! Whether a new transmission pan falls within the act's provisions, remains to be seen.

One more thing. Someone here mentioned buying a MotorCraft filter from Rock Auto. Before you use that filter, make sure it is a genuine Ford product. It may very well be a Chinese knockoff. Even a few Ford dealers have been fooled—they look the same, but they don't filter the same!

To discuss the filter extensions everyone talks about. They are used to hold the filters in place. A lot of filters just get pushed into the valve body and the pan holds it in. Some pans have little legs in the middle to make contact with the filter. Others have longer filters.

Wait...PPE has two pans? A standard and deep dish?
From what I recall even their 'standard' pan holds about 3/4ths of a quarter more fluid. I don't recall anyone having issues with high temps on our forum so I don't feel there's much of an advantage going with the deep pan(s). I like the finish on the Mishimoto but wonder what the gasket does in addition to the factory setup. As for the pan baffling it would be interesting to understand what the difference means. All that said if I were to get one today it would be the plain 'standard' sized PPE.

Only issue is my dealer told me it would void my transmission warranty and it's not worth arguing over. They didn't say anything about the. MBS transmission dipstick when they changed my fluid/filter. Re-used the stock plastic pan too.

Drain and fill, easy with these pans though.

I'm just buying this pan because I like the expensive drain plug...

Where do they (PPE) document the fluid capacity requirements? Thanks =)

They don't, or at least didn't. I verified the additional capacity via email with them a few years back.

For the standard pan that is.

That's spooky, considering how sensitive 10rtranny is to fluid levels...

Howso?

It's only an additional 3/4 of a quart. I suppose if you drained a factory and put the pan on and refilled with what you took out and didn't check the level you might have a small issue. Otherwise, nothing to be afraid of there.

I mean that you had to ask to get that information...all other people who installed this without this information in the instruction would be running low on fluid and not know it...but hey...we all know this tranny is bomb proof so what's a few quart here and there..

Regardless of the pan installed, you would follow the Dipstick for the correct level anyway

Yes but...to get the correct reading involves getting tranny up to temp which mean driving...without starting with correct fluid level?
