HEADS UP for the guys installing the PPE pan.

Late 22 & early 23 some PPE pans were packaged with incorrect torque specs in the installation instructions. The instructions said to torque the pan bolts to 18-22 ft lbs. At least one member here snapped one or more pan bolts.

I purchased the PPE pan in Sept, 2022 and put it on the shelf with plans to install it at a much later time. In Feb. 2023, I ran across this thread. I went out to the garage & opened the box, pulled out the instructions & sure enough the torque specs were wrong! I made a note of the correct specs and tossed the instructions back into the box so when I finally do put the pan on, I won't have any issues.

In that thread, the author indicated that he contacted PPE & they corrected the error. Hopefully the pans you guy are getting are new stock.

Shop Ford manual says
Install the transmission fluid pan and loosely install the bolts and studbolts.

1. Tighten the studbolts in a crisscross pattern.
   Torque : 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
2. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern.
   Torque : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

Thanks for posting had a bad set of instructions as well.

I would have never checked the technical shop manuals.

Yeap ...I did that. ? It's still busted off on their too. Need to pull what's left of the bolt out at some point. I got it to seel, so I just left it for now. I'll worry about it next filter change. ?

How low do these pans hang below the trans on the truck? The stock pan sits up above the frame/engine mount/linkage etc by a bit

Do these deep pans hang low enough that you can't use a skid plate?

I have deep pan and skids (Shrockworks). Fits fine

I probably would have bought the Mishimoto if it had been available when I bought my PPE just on a cost basis. I do question the o-ring seal though. What happens when you need another one? Not that I think they will quit making them any time soon, but I'd be inclined to pick up an extra just in case I needed it and they couldn't ship one, were out of one, their supplier stopped making them, etc.

Wouldn't worry about that at all.....the PPE reuses the OE gasket, and the Mish pan has the same flange size as the PPE....no reason you couldn't use an OE gasket if needed.

I have extra capacity PPE pan, added 8 qts, no leaks, issues, Bryan’s dipstick installed, shows on dipstick hot & running.
If anything it overcools when not towing, I. Live in Fl so calling i good. Temps monitored by Glowshift trans gauge.

Specify what you mean by "over cools" please

I'd guess he means it rarely reaches the typical 200F temp under regular operating conditions

His extra gauge in the photo is reading about 130F

But the temp gauge also shows him stopped in the driveway/yard. Who can say what it is when driving

Ya'all trying to read too much into this...he could have just come back from a 200 mile drive doing 80 mph, or the outside temp could be 140 degrees...
OP's original post was just to compare the 2 pans, and it's got into an argument about fluid sloshing away from the filter, to clearance, to temps....
As soon as I get mine installed. I promise to evaluate it by doing wheel stands, taking corners on 2 wheels to measure "slosh", making jumps over flattened cars to measure clearance upon landing, and doing 125 mph for 3 hours to get temps.
Comparison of temps while towing and not towing up, down, thru, and around hills, curves, mountains, flats, and if time allows, underwater tests will also be conducted...

That’s not warmed up yet In picture. It runs 195F towing in Fl heat, not towing runs a little less. My conclusion is PPE pan cools oil about 10F .

NO, but if I can locate somebody with a C-130 that could drop me and the Ranger, I'd be able to do a gravity test, and a sudden stop test...

So while driving with no towing or big loads you are closer to 185ish?
