Did you end up replacing the trans pan? I am curious how the added capacity helped with temps. Technically it will eventually heat soak and should reach the same temp on a long enough drive but should help on shorter trips.

Today it was 117F and man I seemed to catch every red light today on a 15min city drive. Temps hit 220F on the trans. Doesn't the Ranger use the radiator to cool the trans too? Wondered as I figure a rad upgrade would help the trans temps too I presume. These things seem to like to run warm, I tow as well though so cooler is better in my book.
Normal operating temperature for the fluid level check is 206F to 215F so your within 5 degrees of that. I’ve read that the high temperature alert trips at 265F

I believe I heard the same spec for the light to turn on.

In summer towing over 110F I am usually still in that 220-238F range for the trans depending on if I am climbing a slight grade or not. On the other end of a climb it comes down quick enough.

Only once, on a pretty steep hill going up to Brian Head, UT while towing out ~4000lb loaded trailer I saw like 250-255F after an S-climb, pretty good elevation change, and you go into the turns with little speed to all torque. I pulled over after and let it idle in and out of gear a few mins before I took off. 48k miles so far and all good. Fluid changed at like 38k or so.

Here is that part of the road, they do warn this route is not suitable for towing but I have been on the road before and knew this would be the only problem area and felt good about it. Truck had plenty of power, but those temps, I want to avoid. South bound.

In a way the Ranger does use the Radiator for cooling, but in reality it just has a cooler on the side of the transmission that coolant runs to. Honestly I feel the design could be better. Part of why I feel the standard PPE Pan would be just fine. The extra cooling fins will help with general cooling and the capacity stays the same.
There is that tiny cooler attached to the trans I think then I think lines to the rad? I do wish there was more robust cooling considering the tow rating the truck has.

I just wish I had confidence in my local dealer to make good judgement calls when warranty is involved. I spoke to the advisor about radiator upgrades and such and he gave me examples of how they declined an engine warranty for a pedal commander but also mentioned the oil change intervals were high too, etc. Yeah, BS.

Adding in, it is frustrating this varies from dealer to dealer. I deal with this BS in the computer industry too.
