Help me decide…Livernois or 5 Star tune?

I have run Unleashed 91 Performance Torquerules for probably 12000 km and love it. It is very smooth, overall mileage is about 18.5 mpg American or 12.8 L/100km for my fellow Canucks. It needs to go in to the dealer for some warranty work so, regardless of how much fun it might be for Frenchy to think it is to tear someone a new asshole, I think it is better to avoid that situation altogether, so back to stock it goes.

They even said I had to install an oil catch can before putting the tune on my truck... That was another waste of money...

Wait, what??? That's a red flag right there! I like the theory behind catch cans but I got some junk hoses that are severely cracked in less than one year, and need to be removed and I'll be returning it to stock when the weather gets nicer. Total shit job.

I'm pretty sure there's a flash counter in the PCM that can't be accessed by an aftermarket tuner.

@UofMEngineer , can you verify this or is this something you can't divulge?

Can confirm it is there, I saw it in ForScan somewhere, and it was right at the number I would expect. Didn't notice an option to edit though...

After reprogramming with fdrs and I can tell you right now it takes a lot longer then 45 minutes to program all sorts of things. Even just one module will take at least an hour to reprogram.
How do I know? I did it myself when I was still working at the dealers

Then the tech wasted a lot of his time for an recall inspection to see if I had the seatbelt that needs replaced. I was there from 1050 to 1215 an don't know how long it was in the bay but I figured 45 min was a minimum. He could have done the inspection in the drop off lane from what I've read from ford. If the tech is flat rate he's not making minimum wage

I was in an out pretty quick an a few others seemed to be getting out of there timely. My brother was a tech at a Buick dealership an when he first started all he did was the recall inspections. Pretty easy gig but no real money in it. He got paid what ever the rate GM said. He was a chevy guy an I always teased him working recalls at a GM dealership was great job security.


The number of people writing up customers seemed to be a lot lower than when I bought my truck there. With no new cars to sell for profit it seems they streamlined the service department to get more cars through with fewer non tech personnel.

Except it is federal law. I can't remember the name of said law but it is designed to protect the consumer for unauthorized work.

Therefore not an opinion

There is all kinds of laws to protect the consumer from being charged for something they didn't authorize but I have never seen anything that says they can't do free service without authorization.

Took my wife's Jeep in for an oil change and those scoundrels without my permission washed it, vacuumed the interior and rotated the tires and didn't even try to charge me. On top of that the oil change that I did authorize was free too.
