Fuel range when topped off has lowered significantly

It's been about a year now with my 2020 XLT, and I'm noticing now that my "Distance to E" display on my gauge cluster (under the Fuel Economy tab) has gone down significantly since the day I bought the truck.

It used to read around 400 miles every time I fueled up. Now I'm getting around 270-300 miles. Is this normal? Could there be something wrong with my internals? Has anyone else had this happen?

I commonly see 270-300 miles per tank. Also, I never see the high mpg numbers that many on this site post when doing road trips on the highway. The real killers for Ranger mpg that I found are: Driving 75+ mph on the highway (even 70 mph plus); Short trips; Stop-and go traffic.

Whats funny is after towing our travel trailer, and fill up, it will read around 200 miles or so till empty.
After we go home and I start driving solo (no trailer) it will take a few tankful's till a full tank reads 280 or 300 miles till empty

When the truck was new, there was no history and it only ''knew'' what Ford told it what the mileage should be.

When towing, if I'm lucky, downhill with the wind behind me, .....150 or so and the "50 miles to empty" light comes on....so maybe 10-11 mpg.
Solo...I don't pay attention....just get gas when it hits 1/4 tank or my Martins Points build up toward the end of month.
Only reason I pay attention when towing....to gauge when/where nest fuel station that can handle RV' s is coming up...

I reset the mpg on both Trip 1 and Trip 2 every time I fill up which for me is every 5-6 days.
I average 19 to 20 mpg every tank in mixed driving.

Have you put new spark plugs in yet?
Add a bottle of fuel system cleaner at every oil change. I use Chevron Techron.

I just filled up this morning, my MTE said about 450 miles. I average around 23MPG. YMMV.

I just changed my plugs at 68,000 miles has a code for the # 3 plug I had noticed my mileage ha dipped some. Now I am back to high 21s to low 24s this is with 3.5 inch lift and 33 inch tires. 100,000 mile plug change my a$$. My other ranger I had I changed them at just under 80,000, it was a beast on mpgs it was a 2x4 and got anywhere from 23 to 26 mpg.

Do you reset one or more trip odometers each fuel up? I reset Trip 1 each tankful, Trip 2 each oil change ~6,000mi, and the Fuel Economy choice has never ben reset since the truck was new. If you had a gas guzzling trip (like 80mph up elevation westbound in SD),range can drop into the mid-200's, but will slowly catch back up when conditions improve. In my case, resetting Trip 1 on the next tank shows immediate increase, but the Fuel Economy trip meter can take 5-700 miles, although it doesn't drop nearly as far due to the much larger database.

My window sticker claimed 20 city/24 hwy. Overall this has been accurate. ...maybe 19 in town.
To see true hwy mileage I wait until I'm up to speed (70 mph) and reset either trip meter. Mid 20's, but the truck is very sensitive to wind. Strong head/tail winds have varied from 18-31 mpg.

I find that estimator not very accurate on my 2020. I get about 23mpg highway. Clean Air filter and tire pressure help with MPG. So does the quality of gas. I run 87 in mine all the time.

Have you tried looking at the instant mileage display? It is real-time and doesn't average. I forget where it is, Fuel Economy maybe. It's really interesting, it can be single digits accelerating, and 99.9 coasting.

I agree. But I don't know which trip meter provides the input. Beside the two reset trip meters there is an overall mileage hidden in the menu somewhere.
I don't pay attention to the Dist to E. I figure 18 gals*24 mpg=432 miles to fumes. Overstated, but plenty of gas stations for adjustments. My butt and pee tank won't last half that distance.

I cheat to make myself feel good. I reset at the top of the first 70 mph hill. Usually high 20's at the bottom to start with a decent average. But it always averages to what it is after 90 miles.
