What the heck. My truck never does this. I've been out in the garage 2 days in a row working on my motorcycles. Spend a lot of time out there. Never heard it prime once unless I open the door.

I feel like something is going on here with some people's trucks.
For shits and giggles, do you have the Location access under FordPass enabled or disabled?

I notice the priming noise sometimes while I am out in the garage without opening the door. I do have the Location service active.

I have moderate fuel dilution on mine but the dipstick has never smelled like fuel to me (smells like oil). But, I don't trust my sniffer and prefer to monitor the level on the dipstick.

Damn, I will need to bring this up with the dealer again. I have searched several other forums, including the Explorer forums, and there is plenty of talk about this same issue, the fuel pump priming noise, and many posters claim to hear the "chime" at odd times. I have been out in the garage most of the day, and it has done it once today already.

I also have the Location access under FordPass enabled.

Moto,

On the truck itself, do you have Location enabled for FordPass?

Dumb question. What about adding a valve cover breather to allow the volatilized gasses to escape instead of condensing and draining back into the oil pan? If this is happening, is another question/mystery.

Another dumb question....
Still confused by the EGR application in the ranger. This Road and Track article states, "The EGR system was likely implemented to assist with emissions by pumping hot air into the intake to richen up the fuel mixture as needed." In my old VW 2.0 TSI, also direct inj turbo, the tail pipe was always black. This I would expect was due to rich fuel mix. The Ranger does not have this black exhaust soot. Question is... Is the EGR redirecting this gas back to the intake and could the temp and fuel be be condensing as it cools when the engine is off? The VW 2.0 TSI also had an electronic fan that would run when the engine was off to help cool the turbo.

What do the tail pipes of the 2.3L mustang and RS look like as to exhaust soot?

Damn you got me thinking about the sooty tailpipe. My tailpipe was really heavily covered with soot. I installed a AEM DRYFLOW FILTER, the trype that does not get oiled. I also went to 5/40 synthetic on account of fuel dilution. My tailpipe is no were near as sooty now, maybe more airflow helped with the rich condition. And my fuel dilution is manageable now. Before I would go all the way up to the twist, now the highest it's been is the top hole! Tailpipe is even starting to get a little rusted near the end!

I can confirm I have the fuel pump priming noise at odd times. I was in the garage earlier with the door opener and heard it go off on its own in the driveway. Why would it even do this? I can’t see a benefit to keeping the hpfp primer when it already primes as you open the door.

My theory is that the telematics is waking up the truck, incidentally including the fuel pump. That doesn't provide a reason for the fuel to be making its way into the oil, just an observation.

Well curiosity got the best of me. I just checked my oil and yep it reeks like gas. I even got a drop on my finger and the smell of gas is overwhelming.

I basically have a 25 mile highway commute which is mostly all the truck has seen so far. I’m going to send an oil sample and document with the dealership at some point just so it’s known the issue existed before any mods. I’m only going to lift the truck and put wheels and tires on it but I don’t want any dealer shenanigans down the road if there is an issue later in life.
I'd do an oil change at 3K an keep an eye on it. I had the smell too an it went away after I changed the oil at 3300 miles. It still has a faint odor but nothing like the first few thousand miles.

2 things.

1) I have fuel in oil issue. A mechanic friend recommended a catch can. I installed mishimoto this weekend. Aside from it being ridiculously hard to install (tight spaces big hands), after a 150 mile break in, it already collected 2.5 ish oz of gasoline smelling and looking fluid. I’m interested to see what happens after a couple thousand miles of use of catch can and computer recalibrating itself.

2) I saw someone on here suggest fuel injector cleaner. What brand do we reccomend, and when do we use it. With a full tank, empty tank, fresh oil change, mid oil life?

I purchased a 2020 ranger about a month ago. I was a dealer demo with 3100 miles. I put on another 1000 or so. I noticed the oil was up to the top circle when I decided to change it. When I finally got to it a few days later, it was 1/4 inch above. I put in Mobile 1 and 6.2 quarts. The level was to the top of crosshatch area. Two days and a hundred miles later, it is up near the top hole again. I am sending my first drain sample to Blackstone. My ecoboost mustang does not have this problem.

I plan on taking to the dealer in a week. Really disappointed in the truck. I love it, but don't think I can keep it long term. I might keep it to the 5 year powertrain warranty expires. We will see. I plan on 5K oil changes depending on the Blackstone analysis and what ford tells me.

If someone at ford keeps tabs on these forums, I hope they are working overtime on this problem. I really hope they can get it fixed. I love the truck and would love to keep it.
