Was same for me. My service Manger has that personality that he so busy and everything you tell him is like the frist time he has ever heard of that issue(even if it's a flat tire?). But they did great work and once the tech told him about the problem he did started you act like he cared a bit. I dont think the service manager are really at the dealer are trained much in the field as they are in management type training. Could be wrong. As long as they take care of your issue, thats what counts. Good-luck. Let us know if they change the fuel pump.

Just got back from the dealership. As I sat around waiting in the customer lounge for a couple hours, I was thinking they were doing multiple checks to figure out the issue. Wrong! They did not do anything. The service manager came and got me and said Ford wouldn't open a ticket because I do my own oil changes and that I would have to have the dealership do the oil change, they would mark the dipstick and check it after 2000 miles to see if the level had risen. I told him that was far too long of an interval and that the last 2 oil changes were done at 700 & 500 miles because it was overfull. I told him I would be back in a week and that is all it would take. We'll see what they do then. I did ask them what was the purpose of sending out an oil sample in the first place as that just had me driving around for 3 weeks with diluted oil, they should have done the oil change and started this BS earlier. As much as I like the truck otherwise, I am really starting to regret this purchase.
Just got back from stopping at the dealer so they could check the oil level compared to the mark they scribed. One week later and only 310 miles since they changed the oil, and it is past the max mark and the tech claimed it smelled like fuel. They also had the printout from the oil sample they sent in 4 weeks ago, after only 500 miles after a fresh oil change, the fuel dilution was 12%! I am considered essential, so I have to drive to work everyday, 50 miles round trip. By my estimation, I have several thousand miles at 10-20% fuel dilution. The dealer is going to contact me after they find out what Ford wants them to do. I am worried that there has to be some excess engine wear from this ordeal. Anyone know if I would still be covered if I see issues down the road after the power train warranty expires?

My dealer tells me after having the problem and having it on record I shouldn't have a problem. I would like to have something in writing tho extending the engine warranty to say maybe 100,000 miles. Don't know if I could get anything like that but I'm going to ask!

So today I was in the garage unloading groceries from the wife's car and out of nowhere my Ranger made the sound it makes when you open the door (on mine almost like a ringing noise). I assume this is the fuel pump firing up. No marker lights, no DTRLs, just the "ring" of the fuel pump and only briefly.

I double-checked and my keys were in the house, nowhere near the truck.

I know there's fuel in my oil too, it's fairly obvious by the smell.

Any thoughts on if this observed behavior might be related?

How do you know the ringing noise was the fuel pump starting. I've read some post on hear with wierd things happening with door chimes and other warning chimes malfunctioning!

I'll be honest it could have been just a chime. It happened so quickly and I wasn't expecting it that it took my brain a moment to register what had happened.

Maybe I'll move my workstation out into the garage and see if I can catch it again while I'm working.

That being said, does someone with some technical chops have any insight as to whether the fuel pump engaging randomly, with no subsequent start event, *COULD* contribute to fuel in the oil?

It could have been the truck communicating with Ford. If you are near the truck and you tap Refresh in the FordPass app, you'll hear a sound from the truck like what you describe. Try it, and see if that's the sound you're talking about.

Jon,

I can confirm that activating the Ford Pass 'Vehicle Details' recreates the sound and behavior. I can also hear the fuel pump activate (at least it sure sounds like it) when this happens.

Can someone else try and see if I'm crazy about the fuel pump part?

It's unlikely to be the fuel pump, it's likely some relays and/or electronics that are firing at the time.

My truck has done this since day one. I have a huge heated garage I park the truck in. I spend a lot of time working on various projects in the garage and every now and then I will here the fuel pump prime even though my key fob is in the house and I am not on the app or anything. I think it's probably normal as I did not start having problems until recently. I do have a lot of fuel contamination in my oil, but that only started in the past few thousand miles and I am over 15,000 miles on the truck. The oil sample the dealer sent in for testing indicated 12% fuel in my oil and that was at 498 miles after the oil change and the oil level was just past the max mark on the dipstick. When I first noticed the oil level was very high, it was up into the twist part of the dipstick, I changed the oil then, which was about only 3,000 miles old, and I drained out nearly 7.8 qts! Had to be well over 20% dilution. It has been to the dealer several times and is going back tomorrow and they are giving me a loaner. Ford is having them do a series of checks, compression, injectors, etc. From others on this board, I suspect it will probably end up being HPFP? Just hope the engine isn't toast, or worse yet, gives out after the powertrain warranty expires.

I'm sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. I guess I'm curious why the fuel pump needs to prime every time Ford wants to talk to the truck?

Also, I'm curious about the correlation (if one exists) between the frequency with which the truck is driven and these fuel issues in the oil.

E.g. Is someone who drives once per month more likely to see the fuel issue vs. someone who drives 5+ days per week?

Anyone care to weigh in who has had issues?

(Also, for the record, I love this truck (my first Ford) and I'm very interested in understanding how so much fuel is ending up in our oil)

Just got my truck back from the dealer with the new hpfp. First thing I've noticed is that my garage used to reek horribly of fuel after driving my truck and parking it, I now smell nothing of that sort. Good sign!

Awesome! Keep us posted on how the oil looks. Your experience will be helpful for all of us.

Yes, keep us posted, I just dropped my truck off at the dealer. Ford is having them check everything but the HPFP first, which seems to be the path everyone else has gone. I believe mine is pretty bad as I have had to change the oil every 500 miles over the last couple thousand or so, but I have never smelled a strong gas smell in the garage?
