I really don't think these dipsticks are very accurate, that is what i been seeing.
I agree.:D Oh, by dipsticks did you mean.....

I wouldn't take Blackstones results as fully accurate. I would like to see an oil sample split up into 4 test samples and sent in from 4 different owners from different states to see if the results come back exactly the same. The levels, numbers and percentages in this thread just don't add up and are inconsistent. The only number I see is 0% failure or damage so far.

Here's some info of actual oil level increases. The initial fill was 5.9 liters.

Each 5.5% increase raises the oil level 5.5mm approximately. The hash marks to the top hole would be about 11% increase.

To get accurate levels on the dipstick you need to wipe it off and install it about 4 inches from fully seated , wiggle it around and rewipe. Do this a few times. Get all the residual oil out of the tube. Then quickly dip and pull for a correct reading.

With the 2.5 inch level kit my engine takes exactly 6 liters to the top of the hash marks.
Liters not Quarts...big difference ..

45 years ago a teacher told my class we had to learn the metric system because by the time we graduated (in 12 years) everything would be metric. Nothing is metric except bolts on cars an I still don't know the metric system. I do have the app on my phone to convert it if there's something I want to know.

If only Google was a thing....
1 Liter = 1.057 US Quarts.

Pretty negligible here, definitely not "big."

Thanks! I was wanting this information. My 6.2 quart fill was just over the hash marks. I was interested to know how much was needed to go to the top hole. So it looks like 350-400 ml from the top of the hash marks to the top hole.
Thanks!

I have been wanting to know this also. But I am not sure if this makes sense.
  • 350 ml is 1.49 cups
  • 6.2 quarts is 24.8 cups
  • 1.49/24.8 ==> 6% fuel dilution.
My Blackstone reports indicated 3.3% and 3.8% fuel dilution and my oil level was at the top hole.

was your starting oil level at the exact same mark as the other guys? There’s your difference.

Even if done at the dealership they use a machine to dispense the oil. They are pretty accurate but not perfect. 6 quarts at one dealership might be like 5.95 or 6.05 at another.

It is about 650ml from the hash marks to the top hole, about an 11% increase.

This supports what I suggested in post 1528.

Yes, the dealer marked one oil change with paint and I marked the second one with paint. Both were very close to the top of the hash marks.

Metalshift, how long did you wait between each of your measurements when you added the small increments of oil after the initial fill? It takes quite a while for the oil to work its way down into the oil pan.
