ugh....I feel like a miscreant here...48,966 mi, change my oil around every 10k (when the monitor tells me) use 87 octane Kroger or Shell gas (gotta use my points) and rolling the stock tune.

no misfires, hiccups, or loud gasps (from the engine).

currently getting about 23 mpg and is smooth.

D

Edit to add - I DO have a Mishimoto catch can...
As far as maintenance on the catch can do you get much in there?

I worked for a guy in a real service station back in 74-75 and he would pour water down the carb while the engine was running, amazing how much better the motors ran after that treatment. He claimed it cleaned the carbon of the pistons and valves.
Also transmission fluid back in the day!

Yeah, black pepper in the radiator and saw dust in both the transmission and the crankcase (used car dealers for the last two).... :(

doing a mix of port and direct injection would solve this
something similar to diesels "regen cycle" where it would use port for a little bit at sustained highway speeds

Regen cycle on a diesel cleans out the particulate catalyst in the exhaust system - not dissimilar to a catalytic converter on an ICE vehicle. The current Coyote motors and the newer V6 Ecoboost motors have the dual injector setup you have alluded to.

The part of the regen cycle I was referring to was just that it runs under set conditions for a period of time.
I think aux fuel kits already exist for the ranger and could be used to implement something like that even if it was manual.

I need to get this done to my wife's Tucson. She's at 62K miles and I can tell the engine is not running as smoothly anymore and rough idles at stop lights.
Please keep us informed as to price, local options and local availability. Hoping someone competent performs the work as you don't want any walnut medium to enter the combustion chamber during cleaning.

Yup, that's the key these days. competence! I need to search for a place nearby that will do it. I will keep you guys posted. I want to get as many miles as possible off her car. It's been a great car so far.

One of our work trucks F150 Ecoboost just rolled 300,000 km. Never had this service done and still going strong.
The V-6 Ecoboosts are dual injected to avoid this.

Unless that F-150 had a DI only four cyl ecoboost it's apples to oranges.

I'm hoping they develop a way to clean these without taking the intake off before I need this done. I do 5K all synthetic oil changes and use top tier gas to put it off. I know it's debated but some say the top tier fuels leave fewer deposits than non top brands. I now the fuel doesn't flow over the valve to clean the deposits but the better fuel may leave fewer deposits after it's burned. It's worth a few cents a gallon to try it. I will run non top tier occasionally if there's nothing around or there's a major difference in price. by occasionally I mean once every 3 months or so.

It doesn't hurt to wish/hope......some people claim that spraying the Seafoam product into the intake with the motor idling cleans the gunk off satisfactorily - have never seen any proof. Walnut Blasting works, period.

My '97 cobra had this plate between the intake and the heads with butterfly valves blocking the the short runners so it would use only the long runners in low rpm to promote low end torque. Those valves would gunk with carbon an everyone would suck half a can of seafoam into the intake via a vacum line, let it sit/soak for a while an drive the he!! out of it to burn off the carbon. I did this once an it smoked like a train for ten minutes burning off the seafoam an what ever else. I removed the valves when I put a supercharger on that came with a plate minus the valves the one I removed looked pretty good. It may have been carbon free before but it looked like it was doing something
