Has anyone done a lab test with their old oil to see if anything suspicious shows up? If so, how much did you set aside and who did you use for the analysis? Furthermore, is it worth doing?
Not yet but I have some oil in a container to send to Blackstone Labs. At the moment I need to scrimp my pennies for something else. Cost is about $35, i.e. the same as an oil change. Useful to compare oils and especially to check the fuel dilution. On my old truck I'd get a used oil analysis once every other year.

After my last DIY oil change, I decided to have it analyzed....
Did a self analyzation and determined that.....
1. It is oil, and therefore "oily".
2. It is very slippery.

All in all, a very comprehensive analysis that I'm happy with. Results were as predicted. Engine in my Ranger has preformed flawlessly, and no need for further analysis.
If any of you are interested, I will preform an analysis of your oil for just $15.00. Send me a sample and a check and I'll get around to it as soon as I can.

Common practice on inboard and I/O boats is to put a ziplock bag around filter after breaking it free and spin off into bag.
Zip bag and snake filter out.

"Does it glitter in the sun? " is also part of my self-analysis ...

I use testing to monitor things as well as decide on an oil and change interval to use. I do it with my regular cars, race cars, side-by-sides, tractor, etc.

I got this back last week. Original fill with 2,341 miles on it. I will be running roughly the same interval on the OEM oil I just put in and then swapping to a better oil as I will be using this under higher stresses.

Yes, I like data and when I make recommendations or comments, I do it based on data...
In my mind the viscosity being down to 5W/20 with so few miles isn't a great endorsement for the wonderful Motorcraft syn blend oil.

Funny....I'm having a "hands on" test being preformed next week. Don't fully trust the "Little White Box"....even their adds state there is an 8-10 % chance of missing something.
At least my self analysis of my Rangers oil is 100 % accurate...

Request he uses deeply texture gloves.

When that time comes for me, I'm gonna make them feel uncomfortable as possible.

Had my "hands on test" a couple of months ago. Happy to say that I am good to go for a good long while.

Will add that prepping for that procedure SUCKS!!!

Have him dim the lights and put on some music.
