What I don't like is having to push buttons everytime I drive. ASS was disabled for so long due to battery gremlins, I'm out of practice for that, not that I remembered more than 50% anyway. Now a tow button to push. If I knew someone around here with Forscan, I'd pay them a visit. Or does Forscan not work that way?

OK, here is the procedure in PDF format. It consists of
  • The 10R80 Adaptive Learning KAM Reset Procedure on page 1
  • The 10R80 Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle on page 2

Yeah, I hated that too! You have several options:
  • Unplug the BMS sensor cable at the battery negative terminal.
  • Purchase and install a BMS bypass module that remembers your last setting and autosets it for you each time the truck is started.
  • Plug in a night light in the 12v socket
  • Use Tow mode
  • Use Forscan to turn off ASS
I ran for 2 years with my BMS sensor unplugged and never had an issue. Battery stayed fully charged and ASS was never thought about again. No red / orange lights on at the dash either.
The BMS defaulted to old school 4G battery charging protocol and worked just fine.

Installing a tune 98k miles ago may have been the best thing I’ve done for longevity. Eliminates the skip shift and the ASS. The better shifting has to help as well. In the beginning I was worried negatively affecting longevity installing it.

Have you or anyone tried this on the Ranger? So I presume in normal drive, it will act normally but not skip gears? That could be quite nice if so. Just looking for real world feedback.

Even with the Ford tune, I still end up keeping it in tow/haul most of the time. More now so after the tune, less reason to go into Sport unless I want to have a little fun.
No, but I intend to. The only thing stopping me from doing so right now is that I just purchased a Livernois tune and have not installed it yet. They advised me to return my Forscan settings to default before installing the tune. Then reinstall the settings once the tune is installed.

Their tune also makes that change when it is installed. So basically once I install the tune, I can scan the settings with Forscan, and I will find that the option will have been set for me.

I didn't know that about the Skip Shift thing. I was under the impression that fewer shifts were easier on the transmission. If the video is correct, I see this is not so. I know in tow/haul mode it hits every gear, but I was under the impression these are firmer shifts, and firmer shifts are easier on wear and tear.

I'll have to try that out. I'll see if I can stand the constant shifting. Shouldn't be a problem for me.
I hope it's easy to find since I haven't used FORscan in a long time.

Over a year ago I ran these three items, (select the 'gear' icon in FORscan, picture below)
- Stop Use of Transmission Adaptive.
- Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables.
- Halt Transmission Adaptive Learning.
I like how it shifts now. A little firmer. I didn't know I was saving my trans.
I recommend this even if it didn't help the transmission.
Once halting adaptive learning, there should be no need to clear anything periodically.

My Ranger came with ASS disabled from the factory for a $50 credit. Huh, fiddybucks.
I would have that done even if it had a fee. It drives me nuts when I ride in a friend's car that has this. I get the stabile fluid pressure thing. Sounds logical.

Also defeated all sorts of chimes, which took a LOAD off wear and tear on my brain.
I cannot afford much more wear and tear there.

If you don't have FORscan, get it. Or find someone (you trust) near by that has it.

This may be good information, but the format of the video seems suspicious. When I searched for "youtube channel "truck authority report" is it ai" I got the following response:

>Based on the content structure, naming conventions, and common practices in the automotive YouTube niche, the channel "Truck Authority Report" exhibits strong characteristics of an AI-assisted or AI-generated channel, commonly referred to as "AI slop" or automated content.
Here is a breakdown of why:
  • "AI Slop" Characteristics: The channel operates in a space identified as having high volumes of AI-generated content designed to farm views, often using synthetic voices and, in some cases, rapidly produced, low-quality video.
  • Content Type: The videos often focus on "hidden" features, "illegal" tricks, or "secrets" about specific trucks (e.g., Ford F-150, 10-speed transmission). This clickbait-style, sensationalist, and repetitive content is frequently produced by AI tools.
  • High-Frequency Posting/Speculation: Such channels frequently post highly speculative content about future vehicle years (e.g., 2026-2027 models) to generate views from search, often using generic, stock-style, or AI-manipulated footage.
  • Similar Channels: "Truck Authority Report" appears alongside other likely automated channels in similar niches (e.g., "SUV Zone," "Garage Heads," "American Steel"), which are known for producing sensationalist automotive content.
In summary, while it may be curated by a human, "Truck Authority Report" relies heavily on AI-driven, automated content techniques.<

I leave a 110 charger in my rear seat 110 plug and that keeps the ASS off. I also use sport or tow haul on the rare occasions I get into traffic.
Me too. If you are like anybody else, you probably have an old AC/DC charger that no longer fits anything. Cut the cord off and plug it in. No more ASS.

I have been using tow mode a lot lately, but if I approach any significant downgrade, I turn it off. It is was too aggressive downshifting downhill for me. Sometimes it will actually accelerate when it downshifts even with my foot off the gas.

This is a simple and foolproof method to eliminate the ASS. I've been using that night light since day #1 in my 2020 Ranger.
I've done the same day one in both my Rangers. When I had my '19 tuned I had the disable A/S/S but use the NL now in my Tremor.

If I'm coming up to a significant uphill/downhill I shift into S and manually shift. I can control it a lot better this way add there's no erratic shifting like in D or tow mode.

It comes in handy here on 89A which is a fun road with a lot of switchbacks from Prescott - Jerome

You taught me this trick almost 6 years ago. Thanks!
Wow, time flies when you're having fun!! :fistbump:🙌

One thing I didn't have to teach you was how to hang the TP on the roll. 😜
