With a 2WD EcoBoost Ranger I think it would be possible to average the mid to high 20's as long as the right modifications were done and driving habits were modest. That said when towing I would still expect it to drop to the Teens with no questions. Just depends on what trailer the OP has to where it lays.
That’s the beauty of the 2WD Ranger. You can have a street truck with great gas mileage, get fast 1/4 times, or put in a locker and still get “out there”.

Too bad 2WD is not an option for Rangers in Canada.

Hate to break it to you, but a 2WD doesn't belong on the trail. A dirt road is fine, but not the trail... I don't care if you have a locker or not as you won't have enough traction

I guess I’ll never have to find out the hard way. 👍

Definitely don’t put 35” tires on it 😅..
My miles per gallon finally settled at 18.5-19mpg
Funny to me though because what the tremor sticker said was 19.5mpg 😁..
Truly it’s going to make a difference in fuel consumption with driving habits..
Clean free flowing air filter will help.. but mostly I found just slow and steady driving habits provided the best results..
Also sport mode shift map will eat up mpgs a bit too.. though it does make the drive much more spirited and feel more like a truck. Anyway that’s my 2 cents

I have kept a spreadsheet of my fuel purchases since it was new, 2019 XLT 2WD . Sure I'm retired with to much time on my hands. Anyway as of my last fill up 36222 miles, 1547.736 gallons used, mpg 23.40 and average cost $2.98 per gallon.

Thanks for your reply AZScorpion. I did a search and couldn't much about MPG. I certainly don't want to beat a dead horse. For now I'll just drive it like a Grandpa, get street tires when I need new tires, keep it tuned with regular oil changes, and just ride down the road with a huge smile in my beloved "Lone Ranger"
The least expensive path to better fuel milage can add as much or more than al lot of the software and hardware available. When I drove semi, fuel saving techniques were pretty important when spending $4-500+ per day on fuel.
  • Keep your tires properly inflated and rotate them every 6-10Kmi.
  • Align the truck every 12K miles.
  • Coast more, brake less.
  • Slow down. We travel to the Black Hills SD once or twice a year, and generally stay around 65mph. Running the 80mph speed limit or above drops mpg significantly. At 65 I only need to refuel once on the 635 mile trip; at 80-ish, I need to refuel twice, cancelling much of the time saved, and costing more.
  • learn to "fade" traffic lights when possible. Coast down to 25mph to a stop sign or red light, then brake. As you come up on a red light from a distance, practice coasting so that you arrive at the traffic at their speed as they accelerate after the light changed.

Thanks for all insight. Most of this I do already, especially when towing. I'm the guy in the right lane doing 60 in a 75. I let all those speed demons speed past and chuckle when ther'e pulled over a couple of miles down the road.

Lenny one thing I don't think I've seen you post, (apologies if you have,) what MPG are you averaging? I'm more curious about your numbers when you aren't towing a trailer.

Just asking because "normal" is in the low 20's / high teens for mixed city/highway driving.

We've had people come on here saying "I'm struggling to average 13mpg with no major mods, is something wrong?" And it's a legitimate concern.

If you're hitting 22/23 MPG average you're just about in the sweet spot.

The same individuals claiming to average 13 are most likely sticking to city driving and driving like an asshat as well.

I just bought this on Labor Day so I don't have numbers yet other than the dash is saying 26.1. I'm very happy with that. This whole thread just just to get some insight into tweaking out just a little bit more MPG. I've learned from you folks it's no magic formula just common sense driving

The good news for you is it sounds like you're near the upper limit of "Good" MPG in this truck. I'd even go so far as saying dang near great MPG.

Personally in my 4x4 with fairly mixed city/highway driving in a major metro area I'm averaging about 22 MPG.

Same here.
Between 22 and 23.
I've learned to be happy with that.

This!

If you want to keep track of your mileage the easy way just download the fuelly app. You input your gas receipt and it calculates your average for you and stores all your info updating it after every fill up.

Thanks anyway. I'll just go with what it says on the dash. If it's inaccurate, at my age, I can live with the lie!
