Yep I had 96 to empty at 1/4 tank. I never knew the tanks are only 18 gallons, would be sweet if they were 20. I found the sweet spot is below 2000 rpm's, gas mileage falls off above that. Like all of us the cost of fuel has fit me intensely interested in economy. My trip cost me more than it did in my F-250 diesel just a couple of years ago!I was really surprised by mine on this trip. I filled up in Flagstaff, AZ and made it to Durango, CO and got 26.7 mpg. What's even more impressive (I thought) was I still had 133 miles to E.
There are many elevation changes along the way and my average speed was 75 mph. At one point I was averaging 28.2 but that was only 161 miles into the trip. There was a lot of elevation changes after Monument Valley into Durango but I'm really happy with what I've been averaging along the way. I confirmed this when I added it to my Fuely app and it was 26.5.
It would been nice if we had a little larger of a tank, 20-22 would've been perfect. You're right anything 2000 rpm's or below is the optimal spot to be but there were many times I was above that going up step grades. I guess that's why I was more surprised when I averaged 26.5 and even the last 4 fillips have all been between 24-25 mpg out here.Yep I had 96 to empty at 1/4 tank. Don't forget the damper too Daniel. That's gotta be good for an extra 1-2 mpg. lol ?Dave, it's due to the aerodynamic properties of all that 303
