Wife and I took a road trip in the Ranger this past week, making a 1400 mile loop thru west Texas and Big Bend. Varied from a 1000 ft elevation at home to a high of almost 7000ft. Speeds were anywhere from 45 in National Park and mountain roads to 80 mph (posted limit on IH10) but most open highway at speed limit of 75. Truck performed flawless and I found nothing to really complain about. Highest tank was 25.8 and lowest tank was 21.2. Highest was at 75 on cruise control and lowest was at 80 going into a 30mph headwind. I used premium in all but the tank with the lowest mpg and I blame the fuel for part of the drop. No hypermileing just driving as I normally do. Total trip mileage is at 24.8. I have No complaints but did go back to premium fuel ASAP. YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY.........

I have about 1400 miles total on the truck and averaging 23 mpg over all that mileage. Current tank is right at 25 mpg after 225 miles. Not exceeding 65 mph and using cruise control. About 75% highway and 25% around town. Have yet to put premium in the tank. That's great mileage you are getting! :like:

I drove two 4x's in a dealer trade 200 miles each way - one with essentially no miles got at most 18.1 and the other one which had about 250 on it to start got 19.6. Assuming they both had regular octane and that the second one shows some break in. Somewhere on hear some one put a cryptic post saying good things happened at I think like 1300 miles and 3000 miles but offered no clue as to what it was.

At 1000 miles the transmission has learned your driving habits and has adjusted to your driving style. Not sure what happens at 3k.
