For me this 4x2 Ranger with the 2.3L is the best of both world's. Good gas mileage in a sharp looking truck, and a big enuff truck when we have our toy hauler hooked you
Good but you want better.
Sounds like you got what you want, so live with it and accept the mpg’s or simply ignore them.

Just like my bike, I always want to make it just the way I like it. On this rig I added running boards, we've ordered the Fas-Top Traveler, and I built a nice sled bed for the wife. I was just hoping maybe just a few simple steps to help squeeze a few more MPG's outa this beauty. You guys gave me some great insight and I do appreciate that info. In no way was I trying to make a big deal outa this mpg question.

I’ve heard increasing your tire air pressure helps and mine always did better with premium fuel.

EDIT; premium “Top Tier Fuel.”

The correct answer to the tire pressure is to run what the door placard states to run. This is so you have best handling and ride characteristics. If you have too much air pressure you will have lower handling and perhaps a rougher ride.

Trade it for a Prius. These aren't gonna be amazing gas mileage vehicles. It ain't that kinda rig. Just don't complain about the Prius lack of headroom, payload, and towing capacity when you get one... same problem in reverse.

We have a Prius and we love it. Totally different vehicle. That's like comparing apples to oranges. This Ranger gets the best gas mileage I've ever had in a truck and can tow 7500 lbs. I love this truck, and my wife's little "Tinkerbell"

I was trying to be humorous by comparing the apples to the watermelon

I'll say this with respect to gas mileage, the biggest hit to the mpgs is usually caused by my right foot 🦶. If you baby it, the number goes up. Should probably keep the little tranny air dams in front of the wheels and get a bed cover. Optimize the airflow around and past your truck

See that's why I love this site. I had no clue about these tranny air damns. Now I have more to search google while I watch football. Thanks

This! I have to laugh when I see this guy in my neighborhood driving his Jeep Gladiator all decked out with all his overlanding stuff. He has the side racks that are full of stuff along with the RTT and inside the bed all sorts of pull out draws and slide out fridge. When we first moved there I asked him where a good place to go off road was and he said he never really goes off road and if he does it's only fire roads. He goes camping maybe once a year and other than that he's a mall crawler with about 1,000+ lbs of wasted gear on his rig.
One must be prepared for those emergencies that can occur.....without warning....in a Wal Mart parking lot !!!!!!!:crackup::crackup:

Hey Lenny,

I totally get what you’re seeking. This truck has great gas mileage and you can never get enough of a good thing, so why not try and get little bit more? I think it would be a pretty tough task to get any significant gains on something as good as our mpg rating but keep on trying! You never know.

And if you find something, share it. 👍

With a 2WD EcoBoost Ranger I think it would be possible to average the mid to high 20's as long as the right modifications were done and driving habits were modest. That said when towing I would still expect it to drop to the Teens with no questions. Just depends on what trailer the OP has to where it lays.

Put in some RVS and save* 1-2% on gas consumption.

https://www.rvs.fi/en/homepage/

* = The longevity of the product, price of the product, savings on the gas consumption and price of gas may be net negative.
