I personally don't know if there is a best year or worst year. My 2019 has had no issues. It shifts great with 35K on it. No heater issues. Only time it's been to the dealer was for a new battery under warranty. I don't think that has been tracked to any particular year. I have all the deleted items from later years. And I got mine in lightning Blue, the best color.
I too have the 2019 with no issues and my odometer is 61,000. I went with the aftermarket Ford Performance Tune and average 30 mpg (Canadian Gallons).

I didn't know about the glove box light but I don't really miss it. If I'm reaching in there honestly I'd rather it not be visible.

I had two bad batteries off the showroom floor but the third has been going strong since Feb 2021. I have a battery tender now though. These trucks really need one.
Here is the poor man's substitute for a glove box light...

My 2020 XL has build date of November 2019, so I'm counting it as a pre-COVID build. One battery replacement under warranty in October of 2022 - and a module card replacement earlier this year covered by my ESP - other than that, no major issues - very happy with the truck.

My 2022 XLT has been trouble free. I added the hood struts and engine cover (only the hood struts were a good decision). In the end, this truck has been perfect for my needs. We hike/snowshoe almost 7 days a week, year round, so we spend a lot of time on dirt roads and fire trails getting where we want to start. I have pulled a number of truck/vans, a Jeep Unlimited and a Toyota Camry (not sure what he was thinking), out of snow banks and muddy ditches, rock solid little truck.

If they came out with a 6G Scab, I might consider upgrading, but for the foreseeable future, I got my truck.

PS - If they come out with a 6G Scab Tremor I am absolutely going to try and be first in line. :)

My 21 has had a lot of issues, trans shifting X2 got the TSB, SYNC (AIPM)X4, fan clutch X2, all belt moldings, rear seat belt, LF anti lock, of course E brake boot and low brake pedal X2, both front door panels, L rear door lock, and some other little stuff.
I still love the truck though, I'd like to give Farley a swift kick to the nuts by trying to save money on cheaper parts!!

I bought my 2019 used. Love it so far.

Only issue I had so far is water in the #1 spark plug well. But I dont think that really got fixed in any model year.
I bought a 2019 used from dealer. Turned out they sold it with a broken DS leaf spring which they replaced even though it was out of warranty (less than 36k but more than three years is a rip off for low mileage drivers). The replacement spring, the manufacturer specified one, looks pretty flimsy compared with the original and appears to be broken again. Question: did the springs change after 2019?

2019 has all the stuff later years had deleted.

Mine still has original battery and no HVAC or transmission issues. Problems on the Rangers seem to be sporadic and if you get a bad one you get a bad one.
So does my 2023 Tremor. Well, with a little help from my 2019 that I picked clean like a Thanksgiving turkey. ??

I had no idea there were that many recalls for 2019 - the only one I had was the taillight one - which was not a problem on mine. Apparently it affected VERY few trucks, but due to the severity (no tail lights) it was a recall.
I noticed that the different recalls were effective depending on whatever the build dates were

I've had a '19 and mostly liked it except for the vibration at speed that no one could solve...traded for the '21 which so far has been really good, mechanically and otherwise. I'm really hoping my transmission doesn't explode.
Seems the best 5G to have is going to be decided by the luck of the draw, maybe. If you have one that behaves itself and is able to stay out of the shop, that's the best model year.
It's a shame to even have to ask that question. I was so excited to get one and had high confidence they'd be awesome since they had been being sold for years elsewhere in the world.
Now I see how naive I have been and it's sad.

Its a lesson we all have to learn and live with. I bought the Ranger because the earlier reviews were more positive but changed as time revealed some issues and also bought it because I had great experience with the previous 4g's that I owned. Happy so far with the 5g and will just try and work thru any issues that come up... :)

Here's a recent thread about someone with broken leaf springs and what they went through with them:

Good luck!
