I am looking at buying a 5g ranger, are there any years I should stay away from?

I personally don't know if there is a best year or worst year. My 2019 has had no issues. It shifts great with 35K on it. No heater issues. Only time it's been to the dealer was for a new battery under warranty. I don't think that has been tracked to any particular year. I have all the deleted items from later years. And I got mine in lightning Blue, the best color.

My 2021 has been great so far; 59,860 mi. I had the blend door problem that is pretty common to most years, but I would think that any 5G's on the market would have had that fixed. 2020 was the last year for 6 strap hooks (4 now) in the box, 2021 last year for hood struts (prop rod now).

When test driving, note excessively rough shifts, hanging in a gear too long, etc. There is a TSB 23-2350 for transmission shifting that is in two parts, part one is a visual check and a re-learn of the shift protocols, part two is way more complicated. I had the reboot-relearn part done and so far so good.
And get the Car Fax.

2019 models have a few features that the later years do not. Hood lift struts, aluminum steering knuckles are some examples. Otherwise there isn't much to think about. Might get a better interest rate on a newer model if you're financing I guess.
Nearly 100k miles on my 2019, nothing broke that I didn't break myself. It's a good truck.

My 2019 is great as well - all the deleted items and none of the big issues some folks report.

Another 2019 that has (knock on wood) had no issues - I just had my 5 year anniversary with it and it has 45k on it. Still on the original battery but I do have a new one sitting in the garage waiting for mine to finally die.
