2020 was the last year for 6 strap hooks (4 now) in the box, 2021 last year for hood struts (prop rod now).
My 2020 October build only had 4 tie-downs. As far as I know that is the only thing that is deleted on mine. I put in a couple inexpensive D-loops to replace to 2 missing tie-downs... I wouldn't use them to tie down something heavy, but for general purpose tie-downs they are fine.

I have a 2019 with ~80k KM, no issues. It sees some pretty severe service in the summer as my work truck as well. No trans issues, no heater issues, I've done no "repairs" outside of regular maintenance (YET, knock-on-wood). Watch now something get F'd up now that I've said this LOL.

Honestly, every year has their quirks. The newer ones (2023/24) did away with some of the features on the older years, but have some cool things of their own.

Find one you like, in your price range, with good history and pull the trigger.

So wasn't the new Ranger introduced in other parts of the world way before 2019 ?
2019 is hardly the first year, just the first year that us Americans got them.
Completely different drivetrain, unique body panels, different component supply, different bumper materials, etc..
they look similar and share many designs, but they are different trucks.

My June 2021 is still going strong, but has low milage (17K). One thing I have noted is that this year /month hasn't have any recalls. Battery is slowly declining and will probably last the 36 month warranty period. I was hoping it would die a little faster so I could get a free replacement, but I live in a mild climate.

My late 2019 only had 4 hooks. I spent too much to add the missing 2 from Ford.

My 2019 non delete truck had only the HVAC issue fixed under warranty. It has been trouble free otherwise. Once again Lightning Blue.
blend door issue is also the only one I've had with mine. extended warranty took care of it this winter.

Mine still has original battery
My 2019 also has its original battery, but I did install a Noco charger/maintainer that I'm pretty sure is the exclusive reason for it. On that note, if you're not driving it a lot, I recommend a charger/maintainer on pretty much any newer vehicle. All the electronics in them nowadays introduce a lot of parasitic draw, which causes problems for people who don't drive a ton. I'm at 44k mi on mine, but a big chunk of those miles are long road trips. My usual weekly mileage is generally much less, and in wintertime (when I work less), my Ranger might sit for a couple weeks without use. The battery doesn't like that.

2019 XL. Basically, a base model. The only options I have are cruise control, and trailer towing. I bought it new off the lot. I've never towed a trailer. I believe it was built in June. I bought it in August. Now has 66K. No issues. I did replace the battery. Had the front brakes done. I did add a catch can. And a memory chip for the stop start. I change the oil every 3K. (I'm old school) And am on the second set of tires. The only issue I've really had was with the hub caps. They kept shedding. I did remedy this buy getting a set for the 2023.
It's not the 97 I drove for 22 years. But I like it.

  • I am looking at buying a 5g ranger, are there any years I should stay away from?
My 2019 has been a turd since the day I got it. Some people have no problems and others are destined to constant issues. I'm not impressed with Ford Tough.

May 2019 here, no problems at all.
Couldn't be more pleased.
(Of course, now that I've said that, the shit will fall)!

Thanks for the info and the vote of confidence. I have a 2019 F250 6.7. It has 80k on it and has been awesome. I believe Ford has stepped up their truck game. I was under the impression, need a big truck Ford / Dodge need a small truck Toyota.
I think this is changing
