This is a whole different tuner than the LMS one but wouldn't his tune show under Program Vehicle on the list of tunes? The only two that show are my stock file 23 Ranger and 93 performance tune.

If not I would've thought both SCT and Unleashed would've told me about removing them seeing as they both knew this was a used tuner. Leslie was going to get in touch with SCT today and when she emailed me back I'll copy what you wrote and ask her about it. Thx!!
You don't have to remove them unless you are at the memory capacity of the device so there is no reason for them to have told you to remove old tunes.

As a matter of course I do the factory reset each time I am changing vehicles kind of like doing a master rest on Sync everytime you update.

Anyway, I am not familiar with the BDX and over the air loading of tunes, so my experience relates to the X4. With the X4 the tune is emailed to you and you use the Updater Software to transfer it to the device. Are you absolutely sure that the 93 Performance tune you see in the menu is for you truck and not left over from when Doc had the device? If you had not specifically got rid of Doc's tune I would have expected to see two tunes. As for the stock tune the device only keeps the file of the vehicle it is married to.

Yes I'm positive that's the Torquerules tune. Before I even tried loading it I asked Leslie and she confirmed it was.

The BDX is all over the air which is nice and specifically says to NOT use the Updater software.

These were the last 2 emails she sent to me later last night.

David,

We have not encountered this either, but we can get it sorted out. Let’s work on it when you return from your vacation.

I had emailed her back telling her I was concerned now that this would happen again. Not knowing if it's something within the tuner or within their tune I didn't want to try it again until I was sure which was the problem. Then this was her last response.

I'm happy to see they finally got back but it was almost 6:00 pm here and this happened at 1:00 pm. SO a lot of time to sit around worrying but luckily SCT called back quickly.

We will contact SCT tomorrow and discuss it with them and then go from there. I will get back to you tomorrow.

So Leslie send me an email late yesterday saying this. While I'm glad she did I really don't want to be going back and forth trying to figure this out and having the thought my truck could be dead again.

We talked to SCT today and they reiterated that more troubleshooting is required since it is a general error code that could be from several possible causes. So they will work with you whenever you are ready.
So I told her I’m not going to go through this again and be stressing my new truck won’t start. Is there any way to just credit me back for at least the tune, I'll have to eat unlocking it but whatever.

She told me to just do a factory reset and that's it, no other explanation...nothing. While I could ASSume she was going to credit me back it would be nice if she just said it and explained how to do this. It was easy, but when you're not familiar with the BDX tuner you're just guessing it is. I'm glad others are happy and have had good luck with them but from having to deal with all this sitting around for many hours waiting for generic emails I'm done. When you receive an email a customers truck is dead after loading their tune I'd expect a response in a reasonable time frame, not 3 hours later. Maybe I expect to much but I think customer service is pretty bad. So I'll stick to what I should've in the first place and I'll never do business ever again with anyone when there's no phone support.

Anyone want to buy a BDX tuner? lol

The problem with email is that there is an expected 24 turn around time. It should be shorter, given that they don't have phone service, but email is designed as a slow means of communication. I am sorry to hear you have had issues. I was able to call Ford Performance and talk to someone on the phone immediately, like 1 ring and they answered. It sounds like you expect customer service of old, whereas that doesn't really exist anymore. I have learned that the customer is really just a nuisance on a business these days. (I have no experience with Unleashed, so I am speaking generically and not about them specifically.)

I wasn't expecting an answer immediately but 3 hours was IMHO way to long. And the response was a generic one which didn't help one bit. After hearing for years how fast they respond at all times of the day/night I think my expectations were just higher. I always say "tune at your own risk" and at least my truck started and seems to be running good again. I was really looking forward to trying this tune but most likely after our trip I'll go back the the Livernois tune. I never had a single issue in over 3 years and I was more than happy how MP1 performed.

I have had the same experience as you when I call Livernois. Someone usually answers quickly and they're always very helpful. Granted I didn't have this issue with them but just some general things when I first purchased my tunes from them.

I have the BDX and I can't stand it. It was so much better using the NGauge on my Fusion. I've had no luck with any over the air updates or new tunes loaded that way. I've had to have it emailed to me and loaded via laptop. Aside from that extra layer haven't had any issues with his tunes or CS. That's a hardware issue. Always made any requests I wanted easy. Only thing that hasn't been figured out is how to keep the gear indicator on full time.

Instead of making another thread, I thought I would ask here. . . . .

The way our trucks come from the factory if we want to get movin' down the road, we push down on the go go pedal harder. When we want to tow or haul something, we push the tow/haul button. Why is it that the tuning companies have a performance tune and a tow/haul tune? I know the Ford Performance tune is an all in one tune, with no switching back and forth. I suppose a tow tune could effectively negate a performance tune, but would there be negative effects of running a tow tune all the time? If the Ford Performance tune can do it, why don't the tuning companies do it?

Many here run the Livernois tow tune full time and love it. I tried it and I personally didn't care for it as a daily driving tune. It didn't feel like it had enough hp/tq for me. Not that I drive it on the edge, it's quite the opposite but I liked the hp/tq you get all the time with the 91-93 performance tune.

The tow feature usjng the button changes the shift strategy of the transmission, including engine braking and keeping the revs higher. The performance tune has to do with fuel/air tuning (there is some transmission, but not in the way of the tow button). The tow tune from most tuners allows you to keep running lower grade fuel while getting the benefits of the transmission strategy, without having to push the button every time you start the truck. I run the Ford Performance tune and the tow button at all times.

Thank you guys for the responses. I am somewhat trying to avoid switching back and forth between two tunes (if I get a tune) just because I'm going to haul something heavy which I do a few times a year. I have terrible luck with computers and some electronics, so the less I have to fool with them, the better off I am.

Today is the first time I've switched from the Livernois performance to the tow tune as I will be towing a small trailer over 800 miles. If I was just going across town I probably wouldn't change it even though Livernois says don't tow with the performance tune.

I already don't like the tow tune for every day driving but the transmission has to relearn also with the change. Even though the truck accelerates smoothly it is completely different and I will switch back to the performance tune after my tow is complete.

It definitely drives differently. The tow tune is designed to keep you in the sweet spot of the torque band where the performance tunes aim to keep you in the sweet spot of the HP band (theoretically speaking out my butt, but that's my guess anyway).

3hrs is a long time when it's your truck and your issue. (I totally understand that) but to be fair 3hrs is pretty good considering this isn't a large corporation with 100 employees. You have no idea what was going on with them. Maybe a family emergency? Maybe internet was down? Maye a car accident? Maybe just backlogged with orders and revisions? Who knows! I get that you were upset and I would be too if my truck was dead! I personally have been dealing with Unleashed since 2014 and I have had great customer service!

You're right but, even when they finally responded it was only a link to the codes that @CO2Ranger posted here nothing else. Sorry to me this is not expectable that they think everyone can diagnose their own problems. Then after almost 5 hours they tell me to deal with SCT. Sorry I bought this tune from you not SCT and I'm going going back and forth between two different companies on my time. This is their job to figure this out not mine.

Plus, if there was a family emergency or whatever they should just say "sorry it's taking so long we're backlogged", "We have some personal stuff we're dealing with please be patient we'll get to soon as soon as we can" or whatever. Some communication would be better than nothing.

Also once I paid for the tune and told them which one I wanted they never responded with any kind of instructions on what to do, how long will this take to send them to the cloud. I know with Livernois it can take as long as several days but they at least tell you so you're not sitting around guessing. All I received was an email saying "Received, thank you" for the payment. WTF I'm I supposed to do, sit there and guess what happens next?

I'm glad you all had good luck but my encounter was the complete opposite and will never deal with them again. Heck it's been almost a week and I still haven't received the $249.99 credit they promised me. Screw them I'm done with them and chalk it up to a huge waste of time and money!

Not gonna lie, all this has me questioning my plan to go with Unleashed for my tune... They were first on my list for quite some time, but I do find myself leaning more towards Livernois especially after hearing how well MP1 performed with it. I think the fact that Ford uses their programmer and such for their own in house tune does give me extra confidence.
