Picked the truck up last evening (Monday)

Ready for this..................
A loose, bare, broken wire in the steering column, per the lead tech/ mechanic, (what are they actually called now anyway?)
Service manager took a picture and the wire harness is covered in a foam wrap and there was a depressed spot that had a hole rubbed in it . You could see the wire was rubbed bare and must have been touching something. Also it had come loose from adjusting the steering wheel when I get in to drive and get out of the truck. Basically and up and down motion.

Manager said they had to push it in the garage, and it was spinning codes when they key fob started it and as I mentioned died when they turned the key to run and shifted into a gear.
Just like I told them.

Made a few stops on the way home and turned the engine on and off 3 or 4 times and no codes.
So maybe its fixed? Who knows?

Damn , all that because a few strands of copper where they were not supposed to be , glad they got it !

This may crop up again if people adjust the wheel a lot , i dont think i have ever moved mine...

Sounds like a definitive fix. Great news. And it sounds like a good tech. Wouldn’t hurt to take him a 6 pack. Not Bud Light.

As I suspected, something really stupid, and really easy to fix. I'd be really surprised if this was not the culprit.

My biggest question is how did this happen? What caused the wiring to get the hole rubbed in it? That would be my only concern at this point.

Congrats on them FINALLY figuring out the culprit...

That's awesome! I wonder how that lines up the AirlineTech's assessment. Do you know what the wire went to?

Didn't get a picture.
I'll post up a copy of the paperwork.
Only pictures shown were the before repairs
Wires are wrapped in foam padding. And it was clear the wrap was compressed against something in the column. And the then the up and down motion of adjusting the column caused a tear in the foam pad/wrap.

Well at least they finally found something, so let's hope it is the final fix.
Airline wasn't far off, as he suspected something with the ignition or PATS, which are both in
the steering column. If I was closer to KS, I'd buy him a beer, or coffee.

Ultimate question: Are you going to keep it?

Am I going to keep it? At this moment, I am in no rush to offload it.
But, I am looking

At close to 3 months at least 10 trips to the dealer with one on a rollback. Reading about transmission issues, etc. My faith is a little skewed.

Again a huge thanks to Airline tech and the rest of you all.
