Is a 10,000 mile oil change interval ideal for the 2.3L?

I don't think the engine is hard on oil but I worry about the turbo itself.
Full syn or Motorcraft Blend every 5k. Cheap insurance.
A used oil analysis is the only way to know for sure. Run it 10k and see how the UOA looks.

Just tossing my .02 cents in.

My local Ford dealer recommends 5k miles on the blend in Vegas due to the summers and all. I go with the full synthetic and 5k intervals for good measure. I have been super busy and as of right now I am at almost 6k miles since the last one and my oil life shows 30%

With our '16 Honda Pilot I just fully trust the vehicle to tell me when. It is a N/A v6 so less concerned about oil.

These vehicles likely all have sensors in their oil pan that is capable of measuring the oil quality. At least that is how Benz did it over 15yrs ago. Sure by now all the brands have more advanced sensors for it.

Ford doesn't want warranty repairs due to long intervals, but since this is a Turbo motor, I rather do the oil changes sooner than later.

I am trusting the OLM in my Ranger. I will let you know in 8 years when I hit 100,000 miles if that is smart or not.

Still getting used to my new Ranger and the dealer told me the oil change interval is "up to 10,000 miles" for the 2.3L EcoBoost engine on Ford Synthetic Blend oil. My previous GMC 6.2L called for a 7,500 mile oil change interval and according to the Blackstone lab reports I've done on it, with the OLM at 20-25%, it shows there's plenty of TBN left in the oil (the first short change was due to driving a company vehicle, so I zeroed out the meter due to lack of use, not engine hours or mileage).

Since the 2.3L seems to rev higher and work "harder" than the 6.2L would a shorter (such as 7,500 mile) oil change interval on Motorcraft Synthetic Blend be ideal? Or should I just stick to the oil life monitor?

Thanks!

5000 mile would be my choice but to each his own i guess, synthetic is the way to go with these motors, especially for the cold winter months

I do the same Anthony. With our high heat and dust here I change the oil every 5K with a full synthetic and the air filter every 10K-15K max. I feel it's cheap insurance to keep it running good and while some will say you're wasting money, whatever it's mine to burn. ??

I do know one thing I've never had any fuel in my oil doing it this way. :lipssealed::shock:

Here's the deal with oil!!!
Go with what it says on the bottle, period. Not what others say, not what the owner's manual or oil life monitor says. (They all assume you're using Ford oil)
But you have to keep in mind the filter is a HUGE part of that equation too. And what the bottle says, refers to normal driving, not hauling or towing heavy loads.
I use a 25 000 mile oil, but change the filter around the 15 000 mile mark. Because that's what the bottle says, and in this case the box the filter came in, says. And I trust it. But goes for whatever brand you look at.

The book is pretty helpful on the intervals based on your driving habits and truck use (i.e. heavy idle time, towing, etc).

To do such a thing would require you to tear your motor down and inspect it all with a fine tooth comb.. then compare it to a torn down motor of a Ranger driven identically in identical conditions for the same span of time...

Looking forward to your findings!

Like most, every 5K or 6 months. I do see my oil level slowly rise from fuel dilution since I do mostly short trips and the oil doesn't heat up long enough to boil it off. I recently did a 5k round trip from Oregon to Ohio and back and did 1000 miles a day at 70+ mph. The oil looked perfect, but I changed it anyway and rotated the tires too. I averaged 24 mpg, very happy with the truck. I was going up hill at speed in Wyoming and discovered I was over 8000 feet with no noticeable loss of power, gota love the turbo.

In my previous car I trusted the % monitor when it got down to 10% I'd take it in and that's what they recommended. However, with the warranty, I am hearing, it MUST be done by 7500 in order to keep the warranty....dealer told me 5000, which is way too often for a modern car....If anyone finds a reason that you can go to 10,000 and not void the warranty let me know...but i called in and asked about that b/c of the confusion, and 7500 was the answer i received.

This topic is tired and beat to death. The manufacturer recommends 10K intervals (or their OLM that effectively gives 10K intervals). They are the only ones on the hook for warranting/covering damage.

Your dealership that puts the sticker at 5K? The oil change place that says "come back in 3!" - what possible motive could they have for getting you to change it more frequently? Hm I wonder.

The result is DIY weekend warriors blowing money and calories to feel good about wrenching on their car 2-3x more frequently than needed. If any of you read this and are offended, i've got a project car languishing in my garage that needs work - I'd be happy to redirect your attention.

Separately, just had my oil changed at the dealer yesterday - included with truck, and hardly worth it at "free" due to service, excessive waiting (45min after completion before i was allowed to leave according ot my dashcam timestamp). They put a sticker in the corner telling me to come back in 5k miles. Ooookay. sure.

Holy laying it on the line, cutting to the chase, going against the grain batman ! but I agree 100% , great summation of a thread with a few stinging rebukes tossed in for effect !
