Is a 10,000 mile oil change interval ideal for the 2.3L?

Still getting used to my new Ranger and the dealer told me the oil change interval is "up to 10,000 miles" for the 2.3L EcoBoost engine on Ford Synthetic Blend oil. My previous GMC 6.2L called for a 7,500 mile oil change interval and according to the Blackstone lab reports I've done on it, with the OLM at 20-25%, it shows there's plenty of TBN left in the oil (the first short change was due to driving a company vehicle, so I zeroed out the meter due to lack of use, not engine hours or mileage).

Since the 2.3L seems to rev higher and work "harder" than the 6.2L would a shorter (such as 7,500 mile) oil change interval on Motorcraft Synthetic Blend be ideal? Or should I just stick to the oil life monitor?

Thanks!

Oddly enough my reports on the 6.2L seem to look "better" when there is some more mileage on the oil. Not sure if that's due to not driving it enough, but the TBN with full synthetic magically seems to increase after a longer run...

I'm expecting the Ford 2.3L to be harder on the oil, since it's turbocharged, but have no idea what to expect compared to a low-revving (and lower-tech) GMC engine that's got 4 more cylinders...

Good sized oil sump on the 2.3, I used to get 200k plus on turbo Saabs, one went to ~ 280k on mineral, wasn't burning much at the end but oci's were 5k , and wasn't a water cooled turbo. Whether the 4 cyl "works harder" - much depends on how you drive, tow, etc , I do agree if GM excels in any area it's with those big V8s. 10 sp tranny helps manage the "workload" in the Ranger.

Be prepared to get 100 different answers and zero consensus.

Some will say they go by the monitor, some will say they change every 5k, some will say 10K, some will say between 5k-10k and some will say less than 5k!!

Personally, I had mine changed for the first time at 4,100 miles, but that was because I took it back to the dealer for something else and just had them do it while it was there....I didn't wanna wait 10k miles on the 1st change. Going forward, I'll probably aim for 7-8k miles. I'm a fairly tame driver....little to no towing, lots of open road and highway driving, zero offroad use.

I'm 5-7.5k miles depending on how much extra time I have during a month to work on the ranger. 10k is likely completely fine - but oil is cheap, I like wrenching on my car, and the piece of mind for my OCD brain is worth it. OEM filter, any advanced full synthetic with SP rating (latest, released in 2020, designed to work "even better" with turbos). Turbochargers are hot and move oil at a very rapid pace. I've owned a lot of turbo cars, and I've never had turbo related issues using the latest full synthetic and high quality filters. Took an 04' Volvo XC70 to 250k miles and SOLD it still running like a top. From what I hear, the guy I sold it to is well over 300k and she's still running strong.

There are a few current and former ford techs that have you tube channels that cover their thoughts based on what they have seen from past repairs. I encourage you to dig a bit there and formulate your opinion. Like others have said, the opinions range widely here. If you search "ford tech" on you tube, it should get you in the right area.

If you're planning on selling or trading in, then yes...save your money...I'm keeping mine for the long run so I change around 5,000 miles...

My OLM approx change interval looks to be 7.8k miles. I have 37% and approx 1.6k miles left

Oil in the truck
5w30 full syn Ford oil and 910s filter.

FIL had dealer do every 5k with full syn before I purchased the truck. I can't afford dealer rates so it's Pennzoil platinum 5w-30 and a 400s I have sitting on the shelf from my Taco days.

I stick to 5k intervals, but I'm not afraid to go 6-7k if need be.

10k? Well, if you're not beating the crap of out the truck, should be ok.
yeah if the miles are mostly highway , I'm good going to somewhere near 10k on a good syn, my oil change monitor tells me around 7.5k with likely 70/30 hwy/city , so that works for me. Very well designed engine and that includes the cooling system.

Use Full Synthetic. Not going to get into the brands, everyone has their own opinion, I use Motorcraft

I usually change it at 40% on the oil life monitor, with some TBN left per the reports. I'll probably try 35%. this puts me around 6500-7000 miles, would not want to go much higher with this motor
