Ok so I know the tailgate damper is extremely popular but for me it’s take it or leave it I guess. I’ve not been in situation where I couldn’t just lower it by hand so it doesn’t slam. But hey it’s only like $40 so why not right? Before I get one I’d like to know if there’s anything any of you don’t like about it.
9 pages and still no answer why you need a TGD. you regret asking yet?

My DeeZee has out lasted my Ford warranty...95+K miles, hundreds maybe thousands of arm saving assists...still the best $30 I've spent on this truck...if Ford was smart, they could've made millions on the penny to have included this part as a package upgrade...then take it away like the hood strut later...

The damper people are like libs. they call people who dont agree with them haters. I dont hate dampers, just have given my opinion that they are unneeded. Sorry if that offends you. The con is a "waste of money."
It's your responsibility to not offend others and know the never ending things that could offend anyone and everyone at any given time.

Until these tough kids gets married and have to hold her purse... ?
I hate doors or anything slamming or hitting the limits of travel just me from my old machinist days I guess. I have found mine pinches the tailgate cable when closing and has kinked the cable. I see no way to have this avoided so may replace the cable and remove the Damper. Love it but cant keep replacing the cables.
Hey Mel, there’s a simple fix for that….

It’s a bit of Velcro wrapped around the cable with some electrical tape below it to keep it from sliding down. The Velcro guides the cable away from the damper. You guessed it, this was all @AzScorpion ’s doing and that’s his truck in the photo.

When you think about it, and I am because I don’t have better things to do this early, the damper is a mod for the tailgate, the Velcro is a mod for the damper and the tape is a mod for the Velcro. Man, I sure hope that tape holds out or a fourth mod will be needed.

Wow Duke, you make him sound like a legend.
I think his absence just adds to the mystery and myth status.
One day day we'll be reminiscing and saying "remember when Dave..." and all the new members will be in awe and saying 'tell us more...'

Installing a damper changes the truck's ride stance with the increased weight on one corner, which moves the center of gravity by 0.0032987% Over time, this imbalance causes lateral concentric force on the drive shaft, increasing it's aggregate mean friction conundrum. This will initialize a thermodynamic inefficiency event, causing the rear U-joint to glow white hot at speeds above 390 mph.

Prove it for yourself:

Is that with a one piece or two piece drive shaft? Asking for a friend ??

Weird! The cable on mine just kinda pops around it harmlessly.

I don't know if that's a good idea. Can you imagine what that would do to Chris' equation?
Actually, I did consider that. If you will look closely (red arrows), when two dampers are installed on the same tailgate, the Dipole-Tadpole relishivity is compromised making the angle of dangle proportional to the beat of the meat when the assmass is constant. In other words, the higher, the much.

You're welcome.

No you don't NEED it. But there are plenty of reasons one might want one. I gave reasons.
