And now it's installed and working in it's new location. And to answer any questions yes it works, the memory held the code, it works from 50 feet away, the outside cover is just cosmetic and it still is protected from dust and water, nothing hits when you close the door (why I left the cover off). Used dental floss and turtle wax paint safe sticky remover. Best $85 I ever spent ha

If I'd known at order time this was just going to be a battery operated stick on I wouldn't have gotten it--how do you rely on this?

My factory keypad has stopped working , and when a button is pushed the red light doesn’t respond. I guess battery is already dead? How do you replace battery?
I had the same problem. You will need to remove the keypad (do this on a warm day- and gently pry off the double sided tape) then once its removed (note: no wires are attached to the truck) then pop off the housing, then unclip the housing. the battery is there. replace and re affix with same type of tape/

That is a brilliant idea - and makes me much more interested in this keypad - the only source is Ford parts I believe - and did I read correctly that the only way to program it is to have the dealer do it? For a fee?

A new keypad has been ordered. Ford says battery can't be replaced, but obviously they can be. May use gas door option also. I hope these batteries aren't a common issue. Mine didn't last 2 months.

Well, if they didn't somehow protect the battery after it was installed, it is possible it ran out just sitting on a shelf. Many things now have some sort of plastic piece you need to remove in order to activate the battery to protect against that kind of thing. I will be interested to hear how your second one goes.

The battery is a key fob battery and should last a pretty long time unless it keeps transmitting somehow.

Excellent location, Very creative! Did you leave the outside cover off because the fuel door wouldn’t close or just for convenience, changing battery etc?

And like asked before- Can we program these ourselves or do we need to take it to the dealer for programming. I’m all over this if I can program it myself.

I left it off because I didn't think it would let the door close properly and because I liked the look better. Also for convenience now that you mention it

I am not sure about the programming. I got the option from the factory. I don't know if there is a procedure to program it yourself, maybe someone else can chime in. Mine held the code while I switched out the battery so I didn't have to do any programming

I don't know if this works for programming a new keypad, I would guess it does. But it does work for setting a new personal code (page 11) Mine is factory so I didn't have to do the initial setup.

Reading that I'm guessing it will be the same as the F150 2015+ (method C), which requires the "Integrated Diagnostic System" which I'm guessing is some Ford proprietary software. That would kind of make sense as one of the postings made reference to "having the latest version of the software". That would lead me to believe that you can't program it yourself. You have to take to to a Ford service department.

If anyone else sees something different, I'd love to be wrong.
