Things I feel are missing/or needed on a Ranger

Me too. I hate the foot brakes and I really, really, hate the electrical ones. Just give me a hand brake with a cable. Thanks Ford for giving me exactly that. Of course since my old GMC Canyon had the foot brake I still accidentally step on that pedal. It's only been 3 weeks so I'm still unlearning that annoying part.

What would I really like? Fold flat rear seat, 60/40 like the Canyon had. Have the 2WD ride height not be so high. I get that they probably didn't want to make them too different for cost reasons but I'd really like it to be about 3" shorter. It would probably help with the aero as well. I wouldn't mind a way to open the rear sliding window but then my Canyon's rear window was also manual and I learned to live with it.

I pretty much like it as is honestly. I'll whine about the rear seat and then remind my self that in close to 11 years I probably folded the Canyon's rear seat down a dozen or so times. I'll complain about the ride height and even look into modifying some stock shackles to lower it an inch or so and likely never do anything about it. I'll bemoan the inability to open the rear sliding window from my driver's seat and then remember that' I can always crack the rear door windows and get pretty much the same effect and remind myself that if that's all I have to complain about I should just stop complaining as things are pretty good. I mean if I can't even find enough things to complain about that I only have to find 2 synonyms to complain ( meaning I don't have to do a google search or crack open a thesaurus ) then I'm good.

Even if I had that perfect rear seat, I would probably rarely use it. The sliding window I don't really care about - I almost never opened the one in my last truck, and I could do that from the drivers seat (supercab) - I just didn't use it much at all.

Is the Ranger perfect? No - is is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY good? Absolutely. A month in and I'm still loving it.

That's kinda where I'm at as well. It's not perfect but as I've told friends this week, it's the best vehicle I've owned yet.

That said, I have a few quibbles. Larger Fuel tank, driver side control should have all 4 auto up/down window switches, give me the option of fixed plain old rear window, better sealing tailgate, memory for seating/mirrors, and they could improve the rear seat.
I still give mine an "A" tho....

it's required to be mechanical, so it still works if the rest of the car goes nuts. well, technically you could have some kind of completely separate electrical system, but having a lever really isn't a big deal.

Even without the government I'd rather have the ability to keep the truck from rolling if the battery dies than get an extra few inches of console space.

My wife’s Edge has an electric e-brake. It’s just a switch in the center console.

That being said I d rather have the manual hand brake like the Ranger.

Coming from primarily manual transmission vehicles I have a distrust of the parking pawl on any significant grade in automatic transmissions. Having the ability to manually engage the brakes is a win in my book.

Agreed! I had an Audi S5 for a while (back when the S5 was truly great, 4.2L v8, 6spd manual) and that electric e-brake malfunctioned twice while I owned it (and naturally the default is on and it was not possible to turn it off), so twice I had to put the car on rolling casters to get it out and onto a tow truck so it could get fixed at the dealer. Manual handbrake is king.
