My brand new 21 Tremor has high oil level and it smells like fuel.

< 200 miles

I'll be switching out to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum at 1,000 miles.

Keeping an eye on it.

I also ordered the UPR crank case breather. I'm curious if that will help.

Without reading 100 pages, is there a tried and true solution here?
It seems to vary based on what your original issue is.

Some have resolved it with getting the fuel injectors replaced.

Mine turned out to be the HPFP.

My oil level was rising and the dealer confirmed it, then did some testing and found the HPFP leaking into the crankcase.

They replaced it 8k miles ago and I've had no more oil level increase.

Edit: Added my service ticket.

I did the first change at just over 3K. Did another blend change to 8K then went full synthetic. If I still had a strong fuel smell at 8K I would have done another blend change but I'm no expert. Changing at 3K might have been ok I just disagree with buys changing to full synthetic at a thousand miles or so. I also made an effort to get some time in higher rpm's to break stuff in after the thousand mile mark.
I changed to full synthetic at the first oil change at 2600 miles. Went 5000 to the next oil change had no problem. Changed oil again then when I got to somewhere before 8,000 miles started having problems. In the next 1000 miles oil rose high on the dipstick twist.I thought the same thing maybe I went to synthetic to soon, but why didn't I have problems from 2600 to nearly 8,000 miles oil never rose at all!

What kind of oil comes in the engine from the factory? Also does anyone know what dealerships use when getting oil changed at dealer?
I'm pretty sure they come with synthetic blend an that's what the dealership puts in unless you request an pay for full synthetic. I'm sure it's fine oil but I have an aftermarket tune an tend to hammer it now an then for fun so I went to full synthetic. Turbos are hot an hard on oil so I figure it's cheap insurance.

If something changed like it was winter or you did a lot of short trips during the time it came back that might explain it.

No at the time it started it was late summer, I did end up getting a HPFP change that helped but didn't totally cure the problem. Still rose from the full level to the top hole, but it is rising higher now with the cold weather. Changed the oil a little over a hundred miles ago a few days ago, going to check the level tomorrow. I am trying Shell Rotella 5/30 gas truck and put in some AmsOil fuel system cleaner!

Comes with Motorcraft synthetic blend and that‘s what the dealer will put in unless you tell them otherwise. I have 100’s of thousands of miles on Ford trucks using the synthetic blend and have never had a single engine problem. I always change my oil at 5000 miles.

Hi Guys,
I haven't been able to read all 139 pages, but have skimmed, sorry if I end up asking a repeat question. So I have been checking my oil levels weekly since changing my oil in late November. I changed at around 5k miles. I noticed that the level was slowly rising, but didnt think anything of it due to not smelling like gas. Maybe im freaking out a little, but today I checked it before I drove and after I got home and I noticed a distinct gas smell that I did not smell before. Mind you, its not like huffing a gas can, but its there. The level as of tonight is almost over the twist in the dipstick. From what I'm reading here it seems like Ford/Dealers are willing to fix it or wont recognize it as an issue. I'm not sure if I should contact a dealer asap, or wait maybe a month or so to see if it gets better or worse? Im only at 6500 miles or something so I got plenty of warranty left, but would just like to know your thoughts, especially those of you who have gone through this before.

If it's that high I'd take it in to the dealer. Mine did the same thing just before 8,000 miles, they ended up changing the HPFP. It helped but didn't totally fix my problem. It did do the job for some guys!

Thanks! Hoping to get as much input as possible before Tuesday. You mentioned that didnt totally fix your issue, is it still ongoing or did you find another solutions?

The level held for quite awhile at the top hole on the dipstick, but now recently it is going higher. I had it back to the dealer in all 4 times after the HPFP change they considered it fixed even tho it still rose to the top hole! An ongoing issue with 25,780 miles on the truck!

Jeez... Hoping you can get it fixed. I really like this truck so I'm hoping to not have it at the dealer much if at all.

If the level is that high and it wasn't overfilled to begin with, from my experience that would be over 13% fuel dilution. I had both 12% and 13% fuel dilution and both were just below the twist. Those tests were taken and sent out by the Ford dealer. There are copies of both tests posted somewhere in this monstrous thread. Ford also sent a technician to look at my truck after having me run 5000 miles on an oil change, which was about 3/8" over the twist. He took an oil sample back with him, but Ford will not share the test results of that one with me and told me that the excessive level is not harming the truck and that they will do no more warranty work related to that issue. They did however extend my powertrain warranty to 7yrs/100,000 miles.

So, that said, it seems my situation is an outlier and not the norm. I would bring it up with your dealer and have them look into it, at least it will be on record. If you take a lot of short trips, being cold and all does not help, and could be the cause. Some people have had the injectors replaced and/or the HPFP with success. I wouldn't freak out yet. Best of luck to you.
