They have a credit card though, right? Aren't there rental car agencies where you're from?
A lot of rental car places are short on inventory after making COVID cuts. On a holiday weekend they probably don't have a whole lot to offer even if the dealer agreed to cover one

The OP is showing a lot of patience in my book. A spanking brand new truck breaks down before a big holiday weekend and he hasn’t threw the keys at the GM. I wouldn’t be waiting for a GM email. I’d be in the showroom knocking on doors. They should provide him a damn rental if they don’t have a loaner. I had a E350 in for service once. It was there overnight. Over night a tow truck backed into it. I cursed to high heaven right there at the desk. I refused to pick it up and told them I would be back Monday when the manager was there. I came back and they agreed to repair it on their dime AND to provide me a rental truck until it was fixed.
Ya, the OP should be set up in a rental truck on Ford’s dime.
I get this. I just, personally, wouldn't go in screaming at the employees. It's not their fault. Get a face to face with the manger or GM and tell them the issue and what they need to make it right. They will, or they will lose a customer and cause of lot of pain in general bad publicity. Don't take it out on the people.

Anecdotal for sure, but...

Just checked my area. Enterprise has plenty of cars. Could even get a Ranger Lariat about 20 miles away from me.

I just bought a plane ticket and rented a car rather than driving as planned. Was told Ford is limiting their loaners due to inventory levels and there is nothing that can be done unless someone returns a loaner Saturday, and someone else scheduled to get one doesn‘t pick up. They will “try” to look at it while I’m gone. Out of the 300 miles on it, 200 have been back and forth to the dealer this week.

If the market is as hot as it is as soon as I get it back its gone. This just has soured the whole experience. I’ll sell it to Carvana and just move on. It’s costing me real money and since no one can even respond to my polite emails or voice messages, my exceptions are low.

im not a yeller, and find while hostile escalation drives results, it’s just not my thing as I don’t like being yelled at myself. I did inform Ford via my case number that I’ve had to get my own rental (no problem $36 a day) and purchase a flight last minute.

Hopefully I’ll be surprised, but my expectations at this time are low after the lack of interaction or response from the dealer today.

Greetings All,

This is my first post to the forum, as I (a week ago) traded in my 2011 Ford Ranger Supercab for a new 2021 Ford Ranger STX SE Crew Cab. I needed to take my son to summer camp, and then visit relatives in Ohio over the weekend and next week, and decided a new truck would be much more comfortable. Paid the balance in cash.

Sure enough, two days later with around 100 miles, it consistantly looses ABS, Traction Control, Braking PreAssist, etc when you turn right. Not left, not straight, but every time you turn right at speeds over 25.

Showed it to the dealer, resetting it and tripping it again, and their computer showed loss of communications with the Steering Angle Sensor, and both right side ABS sensors. They are not sure how long it will take to fix, and there are no loaners available. Just filed a Ford Customer Care complaint via Twitter.

To be honest friends, while I really liked the truck and found it drove great, I'm totally regretting doing the trade. They want to disassemble the truck and replace the main harness, and I know it will never be right with electrical issues right off the bat like this.

Anyone have this same problem and a positive outcome with Ford Customer Care? If my old truck hadn't already sold, I'd just prefer to unwind the whole thing.

Cheers,

JimInAllen
Hey, Jim, welcome to the forum. Sorry that your first experience with the truck was so negative. I see two issues here. First, the dealer can and will make the truck whole by replacing the defective parts (and then some), and there is no reason to think that "it will never be right." You will be rolling in a care-free new truck before you know it, which is the experience that most of us have had with our Rangers. (My 2019 Lariat, bought new, has only been to the dealer for routine maintenance and, of course, mods.) Second, the dealer should have given you a loaner off the lot, new, used, Ford, non-Ford, or rented one for you from the nearest agency. My own dealer has a relationship with an Enterprise Rental dealer down the street, and the dealer pays the rent for a basic vehicle in such cases--the client can upgrade the vehicle by paying the difference. That's the way it should work, and you were right to file a complaint about that. Ford should cover all the expenses for your rentals as well as the dealer fixing your truck for free. Good luck, man!

That's a bummer for sure. I don't blame you for not wanting a brand new vehicle that needs the main body wiring harness replaced. While all the electrical might work fine afterwards, all the panels and trim the techs need to R&R may not like being reinstalled, locking tabs break, smudges of grease on a sunvisor etc.

Having said that, many of you have no idea what happens to a produced vehicle in an assembly plant when it comes to final finish and heavy repair. I've seen brand new Cadillacs in a million pieces while the plant mechanics are swapping out a MBWH or changing a leaky heater core. You would never guess the car had been torn apart. Mind you, those guys worked only on the models we built and had access to new parts if the old ones broke during removal. Not to disparage the dealership guys but they are working on a Focus today, a Mustang yesterday and my truck tomorrow? Uhhhhh, lemme get back to you on that...

Did they confiscate your truck? No? Then drive it. I have driven lots of vehicles without nanny gadgets. You are assuming the worst. And you know what happens when you assume.

I would have Ford (the dealership) give you another truck while yours is in for repairs. Tell them you bought a truck because you need to haul stuff. If they don't have another Ranger tell them to give you a F150. Hopefully they fix it for you and you'll enjoy your new Ranger.
My FIL was just in Peoria Ford because of a transmission failure on his 2020 Explorer.

There was a recall on the trans Fluid Cooler. He scheduled an appointment with them in December and took it in to have the recall fixed but when he got there, they told him they didn't have the part but they inspected the car and he was good to drive it. When the part comes in they'll call and he can come back. He asked why did they have him come in to get it fixed if they didn't have the part and Peoria Ford had no answer.

He's a pretty brass tacks and details kind of guy so he calls them once a month to ask about the part. No parts available.

Then this last weekend on the road back from Las Vegas to Phoenix, his tranny shits the bed and dies. The recalled part has failed and dumped all of his fluid at highway speeds. He got it towed back to Peoria Ford.

Peoria tells him on Tuesday that it's a 5 day backlog to get it on a rack and look at it and then probably a three week wait to get parts from ford due to Covid limitations. He starts pushing for a loaner or something and Peoria Ford says that after the Airbag Recall of 2017/2018 they no longer do loaners. You have to rent a car and then get Ford to maybe approve it and cut you a check after the fact - so you have an outlay of cash on a gamble that Ford pays you back.

Then on Thursday they say the car is fixed and ready to go. He asks how the F they got it done so fast and they told him they had his part sitting there waiting for him to come in and get it fixed.

So yeah - If you rent a Uhaul to do what the truck does for you, then Ford should have a method for reimbursing that. And then because Carvana or CarMax is giving insane deals on buying slightly used trucks, dump it on them.

One other note - Given the amount of technology and metal alloys that cost a lot to be replaced in our vehicles now days, I ALWAYS get the Bumper to Bumper warranty out to 100,000 miles now. Sure it adds $1500ish to the cost but it will pay for itself in the long run and if you get one that is transferable, then it adds value to the car and shields you from legal issues if you sell it at 60,000 miles.

I admit I can have anger management issues. The service staff was telling me it wasn't their problem. The van had liability only and I wasn't about to foot the bill. I've worked in construction my whole career. Sometimes you need to shoot a hostage.

That's crazy Greg! I dread getting anything done at the dealerships now. I still haven't went in for the recall on the rear tail lamps from over a year ago. I asked about it when they did my last oil change and they said I'd need to leave my truck with for a week. Yeah that's not gonna happen! I figured it hasn't caught on fire yet so I should be good. ?

As far a a rental goes I always add the rental car to my insurance policy. It doesn't cost that much extra and adds peace of mind in cases like this.

A week that's a bunch of bullshit, they can check the affected tailight harness while its in for an oil change. took then less than an hour to inspect mine while it was in for routine service. My dealer is a small family owned operation. I try to avoid the chain stores like autonation.

Worst part was I made the appointment 2 weeks before hand. Some BS that they're backed up and shorthanded blah blah blah. I figured most that have had theirs checked have been fine and it would've come loose by now from off roading.

There really isn't any small town dealerships out here which sucks because that's all I used back east and have had great experiences with them. Heck my last dealer there was an hour away but I loved their salesman and the dealership. The owner would personally come down and introduce himself and talk with you about your purchase. You don't see that much anymore.

A week to repair a lamp and socket? Insane.

Am I correct to say that we are not obligated to take our vehicles to the place of purchase for repairs or maintenance? I would think that if one Ford shop doesn't accommodate my needs, I'd take to another dealer. Maybe shop around to find a dealer that does have loaners. If I find a dealer that meets my needs, I would stick with that one and let the original know that I wont be using his services.
