I run mine at 32-33 lbs, the door sticker and the tire suggest 35 but I find a very stiff, jolting ride at that press. not much better at 33 . One of my biggest complaints about this truck, Louisiana's rough roads dont help either.

I’m with you guys, 30 just doesn’t seem right to me either. Run mine at 32 cold.

Cold psi of the stock Hankook Dynapro M’s indicates 30 on the door jamb. Just put these back on after a winter tire change-over and the tech put them at 35. Location makes a difference too.

I’m with you guys, 30 just doesn’t seem right to me either. Run mine at 32 cold.
I figure Ford and Hankook (or Bridgestone) know a lot more about it than we do. Why guess at it? Just go with what’s on the door sticker.

I think it was my ‘91 Ranger (could have been my ‘98), where Ford issued a “recall” where they sent me a new sticker to apply on the door panel for correct PSI’s or something like that.

Now that I think of it, may have been during the big Firestone recall…

I applied the sticker because why not, but by that time I had already replaced the stock tires so it didn’t matter….

Yes. Someone on this forum, who knows what he’s talking about, explained that after the Firestone/Explorer lawsuits, the minimum pressure for any Ford vehicle will be at a minimum 30 psi. Another person in the tire industry stated that this tire, at 28 psi, will meet all of the load specifications. So really, 28 psi is the correct answer, but go with the sticker’s posted pressure of 30 psi.

So ..here's a weird one..had my truck for 2 weeks my all terrain tires are at 38psi..but door sticker says 30......thoughts? My sense is I'm GNA lower then to 32.....what's yours at?
If you are running the factory tires you need to run them at 30 PSI. I used to run 265 70 17 tires separated and they did well at 30 PSI as well. I am currently running 285 70 17 tires better an LT rated at 32 psi and they are doing just fine. Run with the door placard says for factory tires. When changing size things may change.

That's the exact tire that came on my sport. So yes that would be factory. 30 lbs will improve your ride quality tremendously.

HI Dj,

When doubt, ask your selling dealer if they upgraded the tires. Sounds like you have OEM tires but dealers are sneaky on this.... The door label lists the size of the trires for which the pressure is indicated, so if it indicates 255/65R17...you have stock tires. Tires are shipped from the plant at high inflation pressure due to seating the tire to the rim. I know there are still folks subscribed to the inflation due to shipping...not the case... Anyway the dealer is supposed to deliver a new vehicle after preforming the pre Delivery work on the truck. It seems 99% do not set tire pressure which is required by Ford Pre Delivery... On going problem with all sort of stiff ride complaints etc.... I hate that the customer has to learn this the hard way.... Ford went so far as to put yellow caps on the valve stems of the wheels. So the dealership Pre Delivery folks fish the black caps out of the glove box, not checking or setting tire pressure and installed the black caps.

I have the LT tires 265/65r17 from ford and my door jam sticker says 38psi. They were at 32 from dealer but door jamb says otherwise. Seems high but what do I know. I have them at 38, I can't tell if the rides rougher though. Came from a focus so everything is much smoother in this thing

And you shouldn't arbitrarily select a tire pressure. Start with what is recommended. In this case its 30 psi.

Drive a bit to warm up the tries. Verify psi is at the set 30 psi. Chalk a section on the tire treads.
Drive it a short bit and check the chalk wear.

If the center is worn, but not along the edges the pressure is too high. If worn on the edges, but not in the middle, the pressure is too low.

You want even wear along the entire tread section. This is the only way to determine the correct pressure for your vehicle. Goal is all treads contacting the road equally.

Asking on the internet and guessing is not the way to go.

XLT 4X4 came stock with Bridgestone Duelers at 30psi front and rear.
Upgraded to BFGoodrich ATKO C-Load Rating 265-70-17. BFG calls for 40psi but I chalked them and it comes to about 36. Much more noticeable ride quality with just 4 lbs less.

A few things to consider...
  • As summer comes on, for every 10 degrees it warms up, you gain roughly a pound of air pressure in the tires. Inverse when things cool too. So if you last checked your tires when it was 40 degrees outside and it's 85 to 90 now, you may have gained about 4 to 5 pounds of pressure.
  • As your tires rotate on the pavement they heat up. On a road trip they can gain 5 to 6 pounds when they heat up. That's fine, normal, and within spec for your tires. But that is why the manufacturer also has a cold tire psi and not a hot tire psi. This is going to sound super tire nerdy, but I like to check mine in the early AM before the sun gets up. That is the cold / coolest it will be for the day. If they need a pound or two, it is easy to add with just a bicycle pump. This time of year though, I'm usually bleeding a pound or two.
  • Don't trust the Ford App or dashboard for your psi. I have a good tire gauge and it reads about 3lbs lower than the dashboard. I can use the gauge to get all of the tires to match and then the Ford app will show that I have two tires at 40, one at 39 and one at 41.
I would like to get one of those hoses that goes to two tires at once so I can fill two at once and because it will equalize the pressure left to right. Then knowing they are EXACTLY the same, see what the Ford dash / app says. I just can't figure out why they cost $100...
