There are several threads ongoing that are asking about tire fitment, so in the interest of getting all these threads merged into one, hopefully we can use this to aggregate it all.

I'll start:

Stock OEM Tires sizes:

2wd/4wd std - 255/70R16 (30.1" x 10")
2wd/4wd std - 255/65R17 (30.1" x 10")
FX4 Package - 265/65R17 (30.6" x 10.4")
FX4 Package - 265/60R18 (30.5" x 10.4") - this probably needs confirmed, the website is a bit confusing.

Great tool for size comparisons:

https://tiresize.com/comparison/

General:

The stock front "wings" are a limiter to overall diameter in full lock position. These are removable, you probably do so "at your own risk", but in stock configuration it's looking like a 265/70R17 is about as big as you'd wan't to go based on my eye, which is about 31.5" x 10.5".

Width is another concern, there is very little clearance between the back of the tire and the spindle assembly. Again, this is conjecture or my attempt of an "at least consider it", I think going to a wider tire, even if it's only marginal, may require less offset.

Rear looks to have plenty of clearance.

Looks like 16" wheels fit as well, so that opens up some possibilities. I like the look of the OEM steel wheels, may be a good setup with some 235/85R16's for winter.

Based upon what others have said regarding clearance issues with stock wheels and stock ride height this is what I’ve come up with for the 17” and 18” stock wheels. At modest 1.5” increase in height and .4” increase in width for both tire upgrades.

For those who are a little “nerdier” I would suggest this tool for tinkering with lift and upsizing:
https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/
I guess it’s built more for “car use” because the ajustable values (clearance) don’t go as high as you’ll find on your Ranger but I found it invaluable to figure out lift and spacing needed to arrive at tire size and stance I wanted: 33.5” tires (295/70R17) and -12 offset on wheels.

Anyone with experience using spacers ? Looks like if you use a 1/4 in spacer it will help clear spindle .. want to go to tge ranger gold standard which is tko bfg 31x10.5 .. every ranger I had those fit with no modifications .. tge new wheel is 18x 8 ... so a 31 x 10.5 should fit even better than on the old 7.5 or 7 wheels .. those hankooks are crap !! .. might take truck up 2 inches in front then up in rear and maintain the rake .. be nice if I could fit the wheels and tires from my f 150 on it .. those are 32.1 tall stock .. then put the ranger wheels with a 33 on tge f 150 .. be a real unique combination

Maybe someone else can check me but I think the lug spacings are different. I'm not planning on swapping so I could be wrong.

Just measured with a tape .. looks to be 2 and 3/4 center of nut to center of nut on both trucks ..?so switching wheels should work .. but again gonna burn up tge crappy hankooks first .. then take ranger up to at least at 32.1 and take f 150 to at least a 34 ... nothing too douchebag .. saw a video where someone left off the guys transfer case skid plate at factory , so I crawled under mine last night .., it’s really flat under there .. and drive train looks well protected too .. ordered the engine cover from the dealership 48 bucks after tax with the studs and nuts

Can someone with a level kit and larger tires comment on fitment of 285/70/17 with either the crash bars removed or something farther along the line? Does the tire rub with full articulation? I don’t want to commit to the the larger tire only to find out it will rip the wheel liners out on the first off road run.

Thank you!

I posted a question on BDS's announcement page asking that very question, what if anything needs to be modified to make the 285/70R17s fit. Apparently questions have to get approved to be seen in the comments, and they haven't got to it yet or don't want to answer it.

I have 265/70/17’s right now but I keep seeing tacos and 4runners with 285’s hah. I want 285’s but not if it’s going to leave me stranded the first time I head out in the mountains. Ripping the wheel liner and attached brake lines off when the truck flexes would suck... a lot.

Well, they claim 285/70R17 fit with their 2" kit, I'll let you know if they reply. I'm interested myself as that's what sitting in my garage waiting for a lift/wheels.

Hey Josh

I'm guessing you've read through most of the posts. Whats the determination on the 285/70R17 with stock wheels and a leveling kit. In my case i just put on the RC 2.5" kit. I was thinking maybe 1/2" spacer would work.

They never approved my post nor replied :( The wheels and lift I'm waiting for are both still not available so I'm kinda stuck at the moment. From what BDS says though, their 2.0" leveling kit works fine with 285/70R17s . ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's sounds promising. I'm ok with a little rubbing or some trimming, but if BDS is claiming that then its minimal in the worst case.

Thanks for your input.:fistbump:

Anyone have a chance to check this? Are these the confirmed max sizes for stock setup? Thanks!
