Changed the oil in the blue beauty today. Can’t help it, I always enjoy that job. Not to mention the additional 27 HP at the wheel due to the fresh oil.

But today had a bit of an irritation thanks to Wix. I’m a LONG TIME Wix user. Huge fan. But they have now ticked me off.
Right after I got my truck someone here posted a link for an oil filter socket that fit the Ranger. I ordered one ASAP. And it’s been great. Ratchet with an extension and the filter is a piece of cake inspite of the somewhat awkward access. Today I started the new filter by hand, then switched to the ratchet. Something wasn’t working. For a few seconds I was confused, then convinced I’d bought the wrong filter. Socket was too big. I checked the filter box. Correct number. Took off the filter I’d starting installing and checked it. Correct number. Put the gasket against the removed filter, identical size. 🤔😳

My socket spins freely on the new filter. Tried it with another new filter in my supply. Same result. They’ve changed the size of the filter bottom! WTF Wix?!?! Seriously?! Let me guess, the change saves you .007389 of a cent!!!! :punch:

I may switch to Purolator. Just irritated with Wix right now. Just raise your price you freaking idiots!!!!

Now that I’ve vented and whined, do any of you guys know what size socket I need for the new Wix filters?

Go to O Reilly auto parts and go back to the filters pull a new wix filter for your truck and try it in all the filter sockets they have till you find the perfect match. That's what I did for all my filter sockets. Until I start hearing of filter failures I'm not switching.

It’s not WIX - they are following the OEM design change from - 30 Flutes to 14.
What filter socket are you using?
I use the Motive X - MX2374 that covers both filters- I will double check the part number- to be sure , it’s an expensive socket but it works great and most importantly the socket extension (drive) is enclosed so the extension does not push against the back of the filter as the other designs do.
I will post a pic of it when I get to my puter.

I’d have to look at mine. It was a cheap one off of Amazon.

Good info about the change.

I’ll be looking for your pic. Thx!

I got tired of chasing the correct socket for each filter. Went with a sturdy 3 arm self tightening job that squeezes the filter as you apply pressure to loosen it. Works great for me. Took me a couple of tries to find the best one in this design class. It works on all my cars. It looks like this one on Amazon. The flat feet matter.

This style one always works for me.

Ditto: Four cars…and a boat…four different oil filter sizes…I finally got this one. OTOH, I do have an impressive filter wrench collection!
I have a filter wrench collection, but it isn't impressive. :-(

Yep, I've got at least 5 others, from chain to strap, to 2 different socket sizes, and 2 other squeeze types that didn't work out. And this isn't counting my go to filter wrench. I've actually got more money invested in those than Airline Tech has in his "gold standard tool".
