I think the difference here is “mod” vs accessory. I think of “mod” as being true modifications like lift kits, nitrous, engine tunes, etc. whereas the oil filter or aftermarket lighting is more of a gray area.

If I hook up some LED lights to my Tremor’s factory aux switches and they overload the circuit, shame on me. I pay to fix the relay and parts that blew up. But that should not “void” the warranty on the engine.

Since I haven’t done anything with the oil filter relocation, I think I am OK - however, every “accessory” on my truck can technically be seen as a “mod” if I am reading this right. So lights, stereo, even swapping the APM to a newer Nav unit could in theory affect warranty coverage.

I guess I’m going to stick with factory approved items (lighting, stereo, etc) which means via disconnect harnesses and only wired to places Ford approves (like the Tremor aux switches). I’ll have to make some careful decisions to keep that warranty intact, but I guess it’s the nature of the beast.

Agree with all the above. I have an expandable three jaw wrench with a long extension. Also replaced the PITA plastic retainers for the flap with rivnuts thumb screws to make moving the flap easier. I believe on later models they did this from the factory.

Replace the drain plug with a valve and hose, either Valvomax or Fumato, and you don't need to remove the skid plate.

When you remove the filter make sure your pan is located under the filter drain trough. It is located behind and slightly to the back of the front wheel.
bigblue, what size rivnuts did you use? a link where you bought them from?

thank you

Oil filter relocation would still be classified under mod because it is considered a modification.

Basically, in a nutshell, the dealer would have to prove that any modification you made was the direct cause of the failure
That's correct, IF and WHEN you get to court , (although the dealer is out by now and it's just you and Henry) when it's on their rack and broken , then YOU have to prove it didn't to get them to go repair it , or pay now ,sue later kinda deal ...

It’s just a bad idea.

Yes…I have a lift and tires (Tremor). I had to remove a skid plate and there’s a bunch of things to remove to pull back the rubber covering over by the oil filter area. Plus, with larger tires, I don’t think I could easily get to the filter without removing the driver side wheel.
I also have a lift, and I remove the tire. Easy Peazy.

I can't imagine where you're going to relocate the oil filter, where you'll be able to remove it without spilling oil all over whatever is underneath the filter.

Nonetheless if you end up installing a remote set-up make sure you create a thread so we can check it out.
