Out of habit as a retired LEO. But...
...it does give you much better visibility for getting out of a spot, especially where cross traffic is a concerned.
Same. The way the parking lot is at my work it's hard to see any cars coming if you're backing out of your space.

Backing in is just common sense, especially if you've got a truck or limited mobility.

When I got my placard renewed with ParkingMD, they had a whole section on safe parking habits.

Backing in means your front end's ready to go and you're not playing blind man's bluff trying to get out between two Suburbans

I agree with this (at least when I’m at our apartment in south Oakland area).. down in Hollister there is the strip (where most of the dinning and shops are) where you’re required to back in..
Anyway at the apartment the space to pull into the drive way spots is rather tight. (Even before I widened my turning radius because of the ridiculous amount of offset and larger tires I’m currently running).
Having said that I’ll normally pull in forward if it’s easy enough to do so… like in a Costco parking lot….
Trader Joe’s though.. those parking lots were designed by sadistic individuals 😅

Situational awareness. Parking you are more able to see all four corners backing in than when backing out.
Preferably though you find 2 back to back spots that you can drive through to be facing out without backing at all. I am always flabbergasted When I see some one not pull through and then later have to back out or WORSE, back out when they could go forward through the empty space in front of them.
