I'm always interested in seeing/hearing all those "my dad once told me" types of tricks and must-dos for vehicles. There's so many out there, especially on a forum like this. One of the reasons I loved listening to CarTalk (the other main reason was their humor haha) was to hear those guys try to understand, and even shoot down, all of those types of handed down tricks people were/are still doing and believing. I should start a thread where people can tell them, of course we all know that would blow up too fast with bickering and arguing, especially on a truck forum like this. So maybe not. haha

I always leave the ac on so when I remote start it the truck is cool. Everything else gets turned off. Got in that habit years ago when I was younger when I blew out my speakers from leaving the radio cranked up high. Now that's a pet peeve of mine when I get in someones vehicle and the radio's blasting when they start it.

That's crazy. Just turn it off.
Agreed, even the windows can still be rolled up with the truck shut off before you open the doors and if you have the auto windows mod installed the windows go up when you lock the truck. Lights in auto and forgot about, powerpoints all time out.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree that with all the advancements over the years in battery management systems and other components that this isn’t a “thing” anymore (or shouldn’t be).

It’s just an old habit I’ve had over the past 30 years of vehicle ownership, and as they say if it ain’t broke...

Very interesting poll results though, I didn’t think it would be so lopsided.

You might try a poll on how many let their engine idle for 30 secs or so prior to shutdown, back before water cooled turbos that was the norm, I did it on my 1986 Saab 9000 turbo and the turbo lasted 250k before the shaft seals began to leak. Modern turbos are much much more resilient though and no need to idle before shutdown, but some might.

I always turn my radio down before shutting off, or at least I try to remember to, but I don't turn it all the way off. Especially with how finicky my phone is at connecting and playing music. Having to turn the radio on might just cause my phone to lock up and/or not connect properly, which means I need to sit there in the parking spot playing with my phone trying to get it to work.

There are some parasitic drains on the battery that dont shut off with the key. The only thing you have to worry about is not starting it or put on a battery maintainer, recharging the battery for more than one week depending on the condition of the battery. But, if you want to look like an astronot and throw a bunch of switch before and after take off then dont forget to notify the tower. ?

At least you're self aware enough to know it's not required anymore. And that you don't try and coerce others to join the movement. haha That's when it starts to become a problem. Everyone has their own little preflight checks and routines.

If I have a USB cord plugged in, I unplug it. Just habit. Then I turn the volume down on the radio. Press button to turn truck off. Radio keeps playing. Gather my things to get out of truck & press the button to turn truck off. Oh, wait. I already did that!!!! :headbang:  This happens more than I care to admit.

When I get home I just leave it running in the garage. But for some reason I can't figure out why my skin has turned grey, I have a constant cough, and am dizzy when at home. But I quit smoking so that's a plus. ?

Disclaimer: Don't actually do that.

The only thing I do is turn down the radio volume and roll up the windows before I shut off the engine.
