Other than cost, what other reasons?
Really a useless stupid design.

I wouldn't be surprised if the '20 model has a flat fold down.

Because the seat cushions are nicer for sitting on. If you want flat then use the bed of the truck. The little mickey mouse seats in the super cab fold flat. But, you would not want to sit on them very long.

Maybe so but the Tacoma rear seats are fine and folds flat and has a hard plastic backing which is very nice. Ford can do it too.

It's the one thing I miss about my 2011 F-150 Supercrew. When you put the back seats up you had a ton of extra storage. The design on the Ranger is not very good.

If it does, it will have a 14 gallon fuel tank :) That or a 12" longer wheel base.

or less comfortable seats. or they'll find a way to cram it all in, but it's really unlikely that they can do so without compromising something else.

I bet most of us here would sacrifice some back seat comfort for fold down flat back seats.

I'm pretty sure they could create some kind of articulating hinge that would allow the seats to be folded flat. Even better would be a 60/40 split so you could fold down half of the seats.

The reason the seat back doesn't fold flat on the Sedan is because of the thickness and interface design of the seat cushions.
They could have made it so with very little change in design or comfort.
I like the design of the back seat in the SuperCab and find them very practical and fit for their design purpose.
The Mustang style 2+2 design is practical and converts easily for storage while the ONLY sacrifice is 4" of leg room, which is easily compensated for with front seat adjustment when needed.Especially on the passenger side and usually on the driver's side as well.
I'm 6ft tall and I find that I must move the driver's seat forward a few inches to drive.
The rear seats on the SuperCab are not Mickey Mouse and they don't fold at all.
Access to the cab on the Coupe is also less obstructed , having no "B" pillar to contend with and a longer front door.
Overall both the Coupe and the Sedan are brilliant and versatile designs, either of which will take a few weeks for a new owner to become familiar with all the advantages .

I've always said..."Back seat riders don't make car payments!"
But if it is your wife then what? To those that like tacoma rear seats, that begs the obvious question. LOL

Of course "Generalities are always false!"
We don't actually make car payments.

Besides...
Would you tell your wife that she won't fit in the back seat?
Mine is comfy in the SuperCab. At 5'2" she can either ride in the backseat or move the passenger front seat WAY forward to put a giant in the back... Her choice!:like:

I'll bet there is more measured seat space in the backseat of the SuperCab than a coach seat on a commercial aircraft !:giggle: PLUS you've got armrest space!

OK, so I like my king size bed.
But I moved it into my kids room, and now I have no floor space to put a couple night stands.

The solution is to stop comparing, and if you want that floor space and the storage of a 150, go back into a 150.
these are two totally different trucks regardless of the common emblem on the grill.
Spin it all you want.
It's a stupid design by Ford.
