Here's 17x9 on a negative 12 offset venomrex wheel. I personally love it.

Any rubbing or trimming? How close of a tolerance before a rub?

I’ve got a -12mm offset for my 17x9 wheels with 285/70R17 tires and think it looks great, especially with the Bushwacker fender flares. Had to do some minor trimming but gives it an aggressive, Raptor-like look in my opinion.

Trimming? Are we talking crash bars only?

17x19 -12 With 295 70 17 Cooper SST Pros. That's a tad over 33's. Yes you will need to remove the crash bars and slight trimming. Go with the 3 inch lift in my opinion.

its good to see others running aggressive negative setups ive been wanting to do more negative so i could run the rtr flares to give the truck a wider look and seeing all of these with larger tires then what i plan to run is great

got any straight shots to show how much it pokes?

also do be warned with patagonias they are not good road tires and tend to throw belts and loose tread for lots of highway and road use... they are very soft tires designed for offroad wheeling in sand and rocky areas

I'd say a couple inches from the fender flares. Wanted to go with something aggressive but not to aggressive.

Well I must have been lucky with the Patagonias. I've had two sets on my old Jeep Wrangler that had about 210k miles on it before I traded it for my Ranger. I'd say I was able to get about 60k plus miles per set on my Wrangler. Now I've put about 10k plus miles on 'em on the Ranger. On and off road. Although, I don't do much off roading now-a-days so mostly on road driving. Hadn't had any issues with them. (Knock on wood, hope I didn't Jinx myself).

Ye def not set up for any crazy off road adventures. Honestly, just light trails and going to the beach is pretty much as extreme as this thing gets lol! But I do like them. It's fairly quiet on the hwy and it's very forgiving on uneven surfaces.

I like to poke the wife from time to time. Gives me something to argue about over dinner hahaha! Seriously though I may invest on the Bushwacker oem style flares. Trying to keep it simple as possible. And I'm sure it would help because these tires would sling a piece of rock/peeble in a heartbeat and would chip the paint if it could. Saw a rock chip on my outside door handle and I'm sure that's what caused it.

Here is my 35” on fuel 17” with RC 6” and 1.5” wheel spacers. Thinking about going with 17x10 -40 35”x13.50, next without wheel spacers. Hoping for them to not stick out as much without spacers but over all pretty good set up. It’s nice to be able to see your wheels when wheeling.

So I'm starting to see from what I've been reading that running negative offset likely doesn't work very well with the Ranger.
Agree… When I was looking at wheels, I was told if you go much past 0 offset you negate the affect of having offset wheels at all. You go from gaining clearance to losing clearance. I have a 3.5” lift and went with +12 offset on 33” tires, they stick out about 2” past the fenders. Any more and I’d have to downsize tires because they would rub the bumper when turning.

I put +25 offset wheels on the wife’s Ranger and the tires are pretty much flush with the fenders. They stick out maybe 1/2” at most. Hers has a leveling kit and 32” tires.

(Disclaimer: I’m not a wheel expert lol I’m just going by what I was told at a wheel/tire shop.) I’m happy with my setup. Gives the truck a more aggressive look but the tires don’t stick out obnoxiously far. Guess it really depends on personal preference and what you want your truck to look like.
