Yeah owner's manual says 0w30 can be used for climates that break -20F.

Oil test cost $20-30, but if you're a nerd like me the data is worth it.
Isn't that the same temp that they warn you about electronics and touch screen failures?
I sure hope I never have to make that choice!

I use whatever the dealer puts in
My dealer offers, Dinosaur oil, Synthetic Blend or Full Synthetic. Ford Dealers usually offer you a choice. I'm considering whether to go Synthetic Blend or Full Synthetic on my first oil change and beyond.

We hit -25f to -30f when I owned my Focus ST, the car started hard (it was parked outside a few of those nights). The touchscreen was a little sluggish, but it worked properly in that experience. I was running 5w30 Mobil1.

At the time, it was a Sync II system, so it still had a resistive touch screen.

We shall see what it behaves like in the Ranger this winter I'm sure.

My dealer offers three choices: Dinosaur Oil, Synthetic Blend or Full Synthetic. Your choice...
Really? They don't follow the specifications for the vehicle? You should find a new dealer.

Motor oil (U.S.): WSS-M2C946-B1 Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil XO-5W30-Q1SP

I mean, it is Tennessee :) I'd recommend finding a new dealer, and a new state.

My Ford Dealer Service Department follows Ford specifications for maintenance and service. They use Motorcraft® lubricants. As I mentioned in my post, they offer three choices: regular oil, synthetic blend and full synthetic.

So your Ford Dealers don't offer you a choice? Really? You might have been thrown off by my use of the word "Dinosaur oil" or regular oil. Oil reserves were formed during the Mesozoic Era (a long time ago) when the dinosaurs lived and you might remember the Sinclair Oil company used "Dino the Dinosaur as their mascot/logo"

So Ford Dealers in Michigan don't offer you a choice of motor oils? Really? My Ford Dealer does. I would look for another Ford Dealer if they only offer one choice. (Of course I know they do) :like:

Oh, they offer semi, and full synthetic at 4-5x the price of DIY. There's more to oil than composition though, some are changing viscosity, or other parameters, so that's more what the question is asking rather than "Conventional, semi, or full synthetic".

I was simply correcting some wrong assumptions about my post. As for the choices I mentioned (Dinosaur oil, Blend or Full Synthetic) I never made a comment with respect to which oil would be best. I haven't decided which oil I'll use. I just bought the Ranger a couple of weeks ago and I'm researching owner experiences on the forums.

I'll be doing my 3rd oil change here in the next 2-3K... All three will be Mobil1 5w30 with a m1 extended length oil filter. I suppose you could all watch how mine turns out. I should be well into 100K before most of this forum turns 20K.

I usd to change my own oil but now it comes down to what your time is worth.

For me, it is more cost effective to have the dealer change the oil, rotate the tires, cap off fluids, check for updates, etc. while I make money in the waiting room. Plus they have free coffee and cookies

Well, my dealer wanted well over $100 (for full synthetic), and I had to drop it off for a day, so you can see why it doesn't make sense for some people, while it does for others.

I can do the full change in 20 minutes, including tire rotation, so that's a crazy hourly rate.

For me it isn't about what my time is worth, it is whether or not the job will be done right. I've seen so many bad oil changes done - There are only a few places I'd trust to do it the right way, with quality oil and filter. Doing it myself gives me a chance to look at my truck and examine things. It is easy enough, especially on the truck. I don't even have to jack it up! Besides, I kind of like doing it.....:like:

First oil change is free.

The Works at a Ford dealership is $49.99 which includes Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil which is recomended by Ford for the 2019 Ranger.

I was at the dealer for 30 minutes and I didn't have to find somewhere to dump the used oil.
