What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

Oh man, I mean I'm living large!

I did two dump runs at lunch time. One for garage crap as I get ready to drag out the old FJ40 and the other of some yard bags. They usually get picked up but trash day was Monday and they'll pick them up next week, but it's been raining and gonna keep raining and I'd hate the bags to get water logged, heavy, and tear on our Public Works guys.

Plus, I have a Ranger! Not much excuse needed for a dump run (and it's only a mile and a half away).

This is the charmed life and I'm a happy fat fellow! =D

158 mile round trip to my daughter near Philly yesterday to cut down a large cypress that was falling over her fence, due to a sinkhole opening up on her neighbor's side. The Stihl made light work of it, and my grandson helped load the pieces on the Ranger. Since I got home after midnight, it sat in the driveway and I unloaded it today at the property where we can dump yard waste. Now to sweep out the bed. Averaged 24.5 mpg, it was turnpike to get there, and back roads home (cheapo avoids the $9.85 toll). Not bad mileage, some rain on the way home and avoided any deer in the dark

Drove down to the big church* to watch the Top Gun: Maverick with clients & workmates from the day job. After it we did some bar hopping, but I went with the soda. The others went for some pool afterwards, but I took the ride home since I got the get up tomorrow.

The film was pretty good, true to the original.

* = Finnish saying, meaning the largest population center in the area. In my case it's the capital.

I am just wanting to think out loud and get some feedback.

We had a pretty good snow here the other day and my engineering brain started turning gears. This tends to happen to me a lot and I come up with some crazy ideas. This is definitely one of them. What if I build a simple machine to compact snow into bricks. I have seen kids toys that you hand pack snow into to make a brick. If you took that idea but bigger. If it is possible to make bricks relatively quick and easy, then building snow designs would be simple. Stack up the bricks and build castles, walls, table and bench, or even a ramp to sled down.

Here is my current ideas for building it.

*Basic metal frame welded or bolted together to create the mold.
*Pneumatic cylinder to compact the snow. This could be run from a shop air compressor. A small portable one should work fine.
*Shovel the snow into a bin that guides the snow into the mold. The mold will be about twice the size of the finished brick.
*The cylinder compacts the snow.

Now here is where I still thinking about what to do. How to get the bricks out. I am afraid that the brick might get stuck. I was thinking that a second cylinder that pushes the bricks out might be best. It could also make it faster to make bricks.

Now for the shape. I think that standard brick sizes would be a good start. Perhaps something like the size of a cinder-block. It is big enough to make structures quickly, but still a reasonable size and weight. I was thinking that a solid rectangle shape would be easiest, but I was thinking that the hollow sections in cinder-blocks might be possible and useful. The would use less snow and be lighter, but still be pretty strong. I know they use these holes to fill with cement / concrete. Might be possible to do something similar with snow / slush / water or something like that.

Or maybe something like lego bricks. It the shape could interlock it might be stronger.

Well these are the thoughts that are running around in my heads. I would love to hear some other peoples thoughts about this project. Do you think it would be cool? or a waste of time? I am just imagining my house with castle walls around my yard, and two 8ft towers on either side of my driveway. Bring on the snowball fights then.

I’m not sure how we got here, but I’m game. Do you mean something like these below?

Maybe build your fort with one of them and focus on weaponry - like a crossbow or catapult that fires snowballs. That would be fun. ?

Castellations? - there’s a kit for those too.

Yesterday I rotated the tires (4,969 miles) and checked the brakes. Washed the rims before installing the wheels back on the truck. I then attended my oldest grandson's high school graduation party. Good times

I spent the day with it. Vacuumed it, power washed the floor mats, put 303 on all the exterior seals and plastic bits, the tonneau cover, and the interior. Then took my girl for a spin to Taco Bell for dinner.

I didn't take any pictures because I think I have enough credibility around here to say I did something and have the good folks of Ranger5G believe that's it's done?
