I’ve been a TFL follower for 5+ years and feel they always give vehicles they review fair shakes. They really like the Rangers too.

Great comments above ladies and gents! SG generally hates on most cars he reviews.

I've never really liked Savagegeese's style, but I do commend him for usually being pretty thorough and thoughtful (I just hate the way he talks and his video editing is just so cliche).

However, I was just APPALLED at how bias he was in this review. All of his complaints were either not specific to the Ranger or just completely nonsensical. I lost all of my faith in the guy lol.

Just a few of my issues with the video:
  • "It's too expensive at $45k" - uhhh have you specced out a normal $34,000 XLT dude? It's the same as any mid-size truck.
  • "Why buy this when you can get an F150" - ANY high spec small vehicle can be more expensive than a low spec bigger vehicle. Also, most mid-size truck owners are buying mid-size because they don't want full size. Why is this so hard to understand?
  • "It has too many gears for a 4 cyl" - since when is there a correlation between cylinders and transmission gears? That is not a thing.
  • "The Tacoma is more reliable" - Ok where's your data when comparing the most recent gen mid size trucks?
  • "The Colorado is a cheap great work truck" and a few mins later "the Colorado is quieter and more refined" - you're contradicting yourself here dude. And don't get me started on pricing here again...
  • "The Ranger's physical dimensions are similar to a 2013 F-150" - literally no. A quick google search will contradict you: 2013 F-150 is 232” L x 79” W x 75” H whereas the 2019 Ranger is 211” L x 73” W x 72” H. I don't hear anyone saying that the Colorado is the same size as a 2013 Silverado. Why??
  • He also has no mention of the Ranger's best in class fuel economy (which is backed up by fuelly.com). He also has no mention of the fantastic low to mid range torque that's so useful for towing and off roading. Speaking of towing and off roading...he didn't do either. How is this a truck review?

I guess my point here is that you as media consumers should be thinking critically about the media you consume. Is it a random video from a channel about geese that you've never seen before (as above)? Probably not the source you should be turning to for education about vehicles. Is the reviewer in question 11 years old? Does the test conducted seem utterly disconnected from the ways in which you would use a truck? Seek out media channels who are transparent about their experience and methodologies, and can bring more to the story than a camera and 800 words.
The best thing you're gonna read on the internet this month, sho 'nuff!

Don't give 'em your clicks boys & girls!

Hi Thad,

When the competition is threatened by such a good product and their sales will decline, they will call out the dogs to malign the threat. That is what you see happening here. Your product is inferior and you know it, so attack the superior product.

Look at the negative ads when the F150 went all aluminum...Chevy showed negative Ford ad after negative Ford ad. We kicked ass with not only towing capacity but with EcoBoost as well as the power performance was way beyond Chevy or Dodge.

So tired of folks looking at a Lariat model Ranger and then saying you can buy an F-150 for the same price.

Do you want a stripped down F-150 work truck... if what you are looking at is a fully loaded Ranger Lariat?

Comparable equipped:

  • 4x4 F-150 Base Level Ecoboost SuperCab is $38,495
  • 4x4 Ranger Base Level Ecoboost Supercab is $29,800
  • $8,695 difference.
hmmm the problem there is incentives...I got $11k off my F150, which came out to be $900 cheaper than a comparable Ranger with options that are non existent in the Ranger.

The difference here is that the Ranger just came out this year and no OEM is going to provide incentives on a brand new model. In 2-3 years, I bet we'll start seeing more invenctives on the Ranger, but probably not near the $10k+ mark. Those kinds of incentives are unique to the full size pick up market only for any OEM.

Also, we always hear about the "I got $10k off my F150/Silverado" on the internet, but I don't think they're THAT common. You either have to try really really hard to cross shop between dealers, or be very patient. You definitely can't just walk into any dealer and expect them to take off 10k on the spot.

I think it all comes down to the dealer too. Some are willing to give better dealer discounts than others. For me I would spend the extra $900.00 for the Ranger as I have no use for a larger truck anymore but i can see where some might not.

Lol, I would take the deal on the F150, drive it home, and put it up for sale. Sell it ASAP, make $5k, and use it as a down payment on the Ranger :giggle:

I believe the discounts are there. I've seen others score some great deals as well. I didn't have to try very hard when I started looking for a truck over the summer. Shopping online thru the local dealer ads, I finally picked up my Lariat SCrew fx4 w/ tow the last weekend of July. I got it out the door for $34k, sticker was a bit over $42k. Granted not $10k but I felt that was a good savings for a new model truck.

That's an awesome deal, congrats! It definitely is easier to get good money off of full size pickups more than any other vehicle.

^ Thanks, love the Ranger.

I just watched that review and it came off as complete bias. I know that the truck isn't perfect but it is no where near as bad as the review makes it sound. It seems like it was more of a bashing rant than anything else. I could do that kind of review no matter what vehicle you put me in. There was no middle ground to it.
