Well , was washing my truck just now so I took end off hose and just let it flow down windshield , sure enough, a pretty good drip every 6 or 7 seconds , still seams like it would evaporate, but I guess not , the main drip is coming from the push rivet in the center , where the 2 cowl pieces meet , the true fix is in that cowl methinks , the TSB is just an umbrella ?...a piece of wire loom would probably deflect it off the plugs though...

if one parks outside , and a monsoon comes , a lot of water would leak on a cold engine , that's a problem...

I stuck my blower nozzle in there , 3 and 4 were wet , I don't think it can get up to 2 or 1

Mods might want to move this in TSB with the cover ? I think it's all related , Im sure it is now ...

seems to be lots of water ? gathered around the wiper arm shaft,
SHOULD be running backwards and down and out by the fender in the corner ... I am going to build a silicone dam and see if it will divert it away ...
black duct tape holding those together ...

Hard to get in there without taking off the wiper arms ,which I didn't want to do anyway , built that area up with silicone a bit to try and divert , also , that piece and the metal tabs that the rivets go in were all pointing down ?, I bent them back up a bit, gona button it back up and test it again in a few days ...

It can't be a coincidence that all the water seems to be coming from where these 2 pieces meet , it's kinda crappy and they had tape on it , if I had black sealant , I'd seal it...
Does kind of seem like a funnel for water.

Well it's right over the plugs , if I have to ill mix up some glow water and black light find it, my guess is , if your driving the truck and engine is hot , any rain that leaks on it just evaporates , park outside though, lots of rain and no drivey , water build up , I'm in a garage so I doubt it would even effect me , but don't want a constant drip on my 3 and 4 coils in the rain ...

I agree driving shouldn't be issue. Just parked outside in a heavy rain. That design lends itself to put water over that grommet which is right over the coil. If your idea works, I might just try to put some black rtv where the pieces meet up.

Damn and add to that not driving as much the last 2 yrs!
And rather than find where the water was coming in Ford but an umbrella on it ?

I'm predicting that when people start getting enough miles to change plugs , some are going to have a rough time with 3 and 4 ... especially those who park outside in places that rain ? , or people that wash theirs all the time (ME)...

I read somewhere that there was a TSB on this and the solution was to install the deleted engine cover.

Yeah I park outside. I probably need to at least pull the ign modules and take a peek.
Maybe add a squirt of oil at the base of the plugs.
LOL I will wait till my EGR valve comes in - also a water issue!

Really good sleuthing on this Robert. When I saw the TSB I was wondering how the hell does water get on the top of the engine. Figured it was road splash - but that would be a hot engine. It didn't make sense. Now it does.

I'm thinking a quick fix would be a short piece of split wire loom or split foam pipe insulation , cover that edge and right over the push rivets , just moving that drip 6 inches left or right would keep it off the plugs ...

I do have the Umbrella cover now, but 1st 2 yrs was without it.

The more I think about it the more I cant believe Ford didn't catch this. They do extensive rain tests. Well I guess they mainly worry about cabin ingress not engine compartment.
Although I hear they missed that on the soft top Broncos!
