This is opinion only but I prefer the steel knuckle, while aluminum is lighter it will snap in accident where a the steel (should) bend and not snap. Again just my opinion. However on the flipside of that there are more options on control arms for the aluminum knuckles. So I guess it's a toss up.
Regardless it will have to be replaced if bent or snapped

The taper on the ball joints between the steel and aluminum knuckles are different. I was running UCA’s meant for aluminum knuckles on my truck for a while. They worked for a bit but after a while the alignment kept going out and the ball joints were shot again. After months of trying to figure out what was going on, realized the shop that did my lift kit ordered the wrong UCA’s. My truck has steel knuckles, they installed control arms and ball joints meant for aluminum knuckles. So it “worked” kind of but obviously created other issues down the road.

Short answer, no. There’s not a ball joint that does both. Your best bet, like others have said, is change one or the other knuckle so they’re both steel or both aluminum. Only other option I can think of would be order one UCA/ball joint meant for aluminum and one for steel? Not sure I’d go that route…

I think I’m just going to get another knuckle to match. I was thinking steel but for some reason I can’t find any LCAs for steel knuckles so I might be forced to do aluminum

I always use Leviton Ford when I need to order OEM parts. I’ve called them many times to get part numbers, ask questions, etc… They haven’t let me down yet. Try giving them a call or emailing and see what they have.

Check ebay or junk yard websites. Grab whatever you can and order UCAs to match. Are you doing the installation yourself? A knuckle swap isn’t too hard if you are already in there.

Besides Camburg, does anyone else make a uniball UCA that fits both aluminum and steel knuckles? My truck was in a wreck in 2021 and Ford put an aluminum knuckle on the side they fixed. So I can’t just go with any set of UCAs. My upper ball joints are fried so I have to replace them asap.

Take it back to the shop and tell them they installed the wrong part, that’s not your fault

It’s been 5+ years since that part was installed and it was the only part ford had due to supply chain issues, and it was part of an insurance claim from a wreck so that’s not an option

My question isn’t about knuckles. I knew it was an aluminum one the minute they put it on, the question is about who makes unibal control arms that can be used with both steel and aluminum knuckles so I just have to order 1 set
