"True North" Build

I nicknamed my truck "True North" - GM now has a True North edition Sierra in Canada - crap.

  • Change the name immediately

  • Hang my head in shame and keep the name

  • Keep the name and hope no one notices

  • Install a tailgate damper because everything's ruined now anyway

Yep, we've all said that before.
Doug,

Truer words were never spoken - I can’t even get out of the starting blocks. I forgot I had ordered something and it showed up at the door just now.

FYI to fellow Canadian members: IIRC, $80 from Fortier Ford in Anjou, QC. In Toronto, they want twice that.

Phase Four - okay, it’s really more like Phase “I‘ve Ordered so Much Stuff for my Truck, I Forgot my Engine Cover was in Transit”. I wasn’t concerned about not having the Engine Cover until I read about the TSB to help prevent water from accumulating, freezing, and cracking spark plugs. In my climate, I’m not taking any chances.

It was a bit like putting a cherry on top.

Not that I’m done! Stay tuned…

Recovery Gear
When you just can’t stay out of trouble, it’s important to be able to get out of trouble. Whether it’s a dead battery, flat tire, a ditch you didn’t plan on being in, or a trail that gets the better of you, being prepared is key.

A few goodies arrived not that long ago and they’ve been added to the Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform. The shovel is a house label branded (Pro Point) item from Princess Auto here in Canada. Just the right size, fibreglass handle, great price point, and an aggressive blade. Unfortunately, they don’t ship to the U.S.

Let’s hope I only need to use that hi-lift jack to pull fence posts.

Those tactical rifle cases are not fulfilling their intended purpose - one of them contains some essential tools, battery boost pack, cargo straps, first aid kit, small compressor, and fuel funnel.

I’ve also added some other important items…tree saver, snatch block, and a recovery strap - a cable is on order.

The second rifle case holds other key items to keep True North looking good…

I guess you could say that detailing spray, tire dressing, and my emergency air compressor are the only things I have with triggers. ?

Thanks Jacob,

If you’re talking about the red aFe POWER Magnum air scoop, it’s one piece vs. two for OEM scoop and has a bigger opening and smoother curves - supposed to deliver more cool air to the Roush intake and to the engine - more horses? Maybe. More fun? Hell yeah.

The red matches up nicely with the battery terminal cover…or so @dondonbabyraptor told me - likely to make me feel better because the black ones were sold out. ?

How are the cases secured to the rack?
How? Wait for it…………

DEEZ NUTS! ?

The Rhino Rack has t-tracks everywhere - I have six anchor points from the interior of each case that bolt into t-nuts in the tracks.

For the price, it seems functional enough :)

Hah, you may be on to something about what I said Duke, but it really does match well :p

Phase One - Okay, the fun begins this weekend with the first phase of the True North build. A ton of boxes have been dropped off from Westin, Rough Country, Bushwacker, General Tire, Ford, Action Truck Accessories, Menace Wheels, Standard Graphics, Galaxy Auto, and a bunch of others. The guys at my tire shop and local Ford dealer have stepped up, I've cleaned out the garage, made sure I have all the right tools on hand, and it's now in my hands. There's a lot to do and I'll be busy but will try and post pics at each stage of the build. See you on the other side...
so will it be a dress package or are you going to give the engine some upgrades?

Tom,

You’ll have to read on to Phase Three - there’s a moderate performance upgrade and some suspension goodies to help it out a bit.

Phase Four may or may not include a Roush tune and catback. We’ll see.

I didn't read why you got rid of the bushwackers?

Great truck by the way!

Thanks a lot Frank,

The Bushwacker flares were only off temporarily while I repaired the rubber piping - the adhesive was failing. I considered leaving them off (some of my showcase pics are flare-less) but they went back on the truck.

It’s been awhile since I’ve made any modifications or additions to True North. Recently, Wolfbox sent me their G900 Tripro mirror dashcam to install and review. I set it up with a grille camera, a rear camera on my Pioneer Platform Rack, and of course, the mirror dashcam itself.

Wiring cameras to the front and rear of the truck isn’t as difficult as it seems but it’s quite a bit of work. You can see all the details in the install thread I posted.
