Did you just add to your existing transmission fluid or did you change that also?
I sucked out 7.5 quarts, and replaced it with 7 quarts plus the 10 oz Bottle of LubeGard Platinum. Before I did the transmission fluid change I installed the Fitz Dipstick. I used an inexpensive transfer pump that came with the hoses. I inserted the hose down the dipstick and transferred the used fluid right from the transmission directly into clear 1 gallon jugs (a Milk jug for windshield washer fluid jug) that I premarked in quart increments. To do that I used my wife's quart mixing cup and added a quart of water, marked the jug and added the next quart until I had all 4 quarts marked on 2 jugs. I didn't spill a drop of fluid and I accurately replaced what came out with new fluid.

My not so detailed write up is here

Personal opinion, no expert. If you have the money to pay for another tranny I would first look into programming. You just had the valve body replaced, that has a warranty unto itself. Sounds to me it either an issue with the new valve body or software issues. You’re also running a tune, I have read posts on this board of issues and there seems many times I see a tune included. Have you tried returning to factory condition? Also, before I would put another transmission in look for a shop that has a good reputation and or builds for racing or off roading. I’ve been around builders a good one can build a better transmission than one you could buy off the shelf. Transmissions are Fords weak points, always have been. I’ve been buying new Fords since the 90’s, have always liked them.
Believe me I understand your panic, don’t do the parts cannon approach. Honestly the price you quoted for another tranny sounds too low in my opinion. I paid more than that for a tranny exchange on a Windstar in the late 90’s!
Good luck brother

I love my Tremor in every way and it's paid for and upgraded the way I want it.....BUT....I did restore the truck to factory settings and it still shifts hard and slams into gear at low speeds....and first thing in the morning it acts super "lazy" likes it doesn't know what to do.

I reinstalled the tune and just have been driving it as is but now I'm super bummed as my "dream truck" seems unreliable.....I was just thinking about paying for the new "updated" trans out of my pocket to keep my anxiety in check but I'm not sure that will 100% solve the issue.....I love your idea about talking to a off road tranny specialist about rebuilding it and making it hopefully bulletproof.....it would be waaaaaay cheaper for me to do that that trade it in on a Raptor Ranger!!....The only new midsize truck I like is the Raptor Ranger but I feel my truck is more then what I need and just want it 100% reliable!!.....and I don't want deal with some BS dealer if I break down out in BFE and have them deny any factory warranty work because it's tuned or the aftermarket trans pan.....sucks having a truck for work with such low miles and not feel like it's reliable enough to take to Vegas.....my anxiety tells me NOT to drive my truck as is anywhere except locally within AAA towing distance......I thought the valve body work done was going to solve the issue.....but it hasn't....

here's the link for the new replacement trans I found online from the vendor here @LevittownFordParts.com ......seems super reasonably priced

I’ve been having transmission issues with the Ranger for a while. Cold start and the truck feels like it goes into neutral for a few seconds then hard shifts. Feels like a sledgehammer hitting the transmission. Even when the transmission is at temp, it hard shifts with start and stop traffic.

I had the truck at the dealership for the past week and the tested it and did a reset of the adaptive learning tables. I just drove it and it’s hard shifting less than a mile from the dealership.

The good news is the service manager and the warranty manager are pushing Ford to speed up the process and get a new transmission. They said from their experience with the 10R80, Ford likes to replace the transmission when it’s under 30k miles. I hope that’s the case but I haven’t read anything about that.

Also they are replacing the hvac blower. It’s very loud at max output and the blower is shaking and rattling.

any update? did you get a new tranny under warranty?

Or take it back to the dealer and have them finish the repair or replace the transmission under warranty. If they give you crap, find another dealer. If you buy a replacement transmission from Ford and replace it yourself you’ll have a 1 year warranty on the transmission only. I can’t see any off road transmission shop giving you any warranty or minimal at best.

Thanks for this one I’m saving this so I can know where to go once my warranty expires and my trans has catastrophic failure. (Hopefully not, but better to be prepared for it then to just expect everything to go perfectly.)

Take it back and have the dealer finish the 24-2101 TSB with the CDF drum replacement. It worked well for mine.

thanks for the advise......I'll tell them it's still shifting hard in the lowers gears and ask them to change the CDF drum under warranty.......worst case scenario I found the updated CDF drum part # by googling various things.....here's the link that talks about the updated CDF drum

https://forum.hptuners.com/showthread.php?107727-10r80-cdf-help

and here's the "updated" CDF part and part # https://parts.levittownfordparts.co...7jCwzTA-wiyYBHNvW5g_mSUDQuP4ZeGhoC6ogQAvD_BwE

part seems reasonable in cost but wonder what the labor cost is?

I can also feel and see the truck vibrating when sitting and idling. I don't think this is related but I noticed it this is new too.
wait, is this a symptom of the transmission? because my truck just started doing this in like the last month. i had my portable toolbox in my passenger seat to go help my brother work on his motorcycle. sitting at a light i could hear all the tools/bits in the box rattling because of the vibrations.

i had an old honda accord that did this as well, tho the honda's vibrations were much more dramatic. solution was to shift into neutral at a stop light to kill the vibes, then back into drive when the light turned green.

while the honda's transmission never failed me, i'm not sure i have the same confidence in my ranger lol. i'm genuinely curious if the vibes are indicative of an issue.

I don't know if it is a symptom or if it is just coincidental and happening at the same time. At 104K and on the original spark plugs. Surely at some point those will need to be replaced. Are they causing the rough idling? I don't know, I am hoping for some wisdom from the great people here.

It's time to replace the plugs.

I was going to say - the manual says to replace at 100k - I did mine about 40k and they were already looking a bit tired. I can only imagine what 100k plugs would look like.

Good luck, another thing to consider, is the lemon law, I see you’re in OC, so am I and California has a lemon law, your truck is only 3 years old. Keep it in mind

My gut is that it’s new. Looks new and not reman. I’ve also been around the diesel heavy equipment industry for decades. Some manufacturers are really good at presenting a quality looking reman unit. But this looks new in every aspect. I’m guessing it’s cheaper for Ford to build a batch of new units than to have units remanufactured. Long term these cores may end up moving into a warranty replacement unit if the trend continues.
In the diesel engine and component industry cores piled up and you would rebuild units as the demand required.
As an example my last employer before retiring had multiple locations. Between all the locations I would say that they had multiple semi trailers full of just turbocharger cores. And those were ones that had current or potential future demand.
To me coming from a manufacturing background for aircraft we only built new according to contract, zero shelf units, partly because if they carry over to a new year taxes are paid on it. Completely different field though.
If Ford builds x number transmissions for new cars then they would have to build x number to replace potential failures, how many do they build?

any update? did you get a new tranny under warranty?
The dealership is working on the AC blower as we speak. The higher fan speeds were cause the blower motor to shake. Replacing that under the warranty and I have a loaner car. I called them today and they haven’t even started on my Ranger and have had it for a week. They are back logged with transmission work orders. lol

To answer your question, they are still waiting for a decision from Ford on my transmission. The dealership asked to bypass all the steps of the TSB and just replace the transmission. When I know I will post it.

Shouldn’t matter what speed your fan is turning if the fan is balanced! Yours doesn’t sound like it was balanced!
Hope you get your transmission issues solved, it is frustrating.
