I'm considering trading my Ranger when I get it back from the transmission repair. Am I nuts for trading this pretty much (except for the aforementioned transmission repair) trouble free rig for a 2022 F150 or maybe even a brand new one. Have the 10R80 transmissions in the F150 been ironed out or are they still having issues. I just have a bad tasted in my mouth from this truck and wondering if it will ever be right after the repair/replacement. Anyone else had this dilemma or thinking about it?

I constantly think about trading, but then I see the cost of a new truck and remember mine is paid for and worst case scenario is I spend 6k +- on a new trans šŸ˜‚

This is along the lines of what crosses my mind every now and then. I wonder if it’s time for a new truck, maybe a Tremor or a Raptor, and then I remember they don’t have a SuperCab configuration. So I think about keeping it and if there is a transmission issue, I get to call the shots on a total replacement and don’t have to fart around with Ford Warranty’s Plan A, B, & C approach to fixing the issue. I also don’t have any issues with the truck, so why not drive it until the wheels fall off?

For the cost of a new transmission, I would just keep winning because everything else has been fine and there aren’t any new SuperCabs.

Mine isn't paid off yet, but after it crossed the 100k mile mark a few months ago, it became a lifer. And like Duke @DukeCanBuildit, I'm going to drive the wheels off of it.

If the rest of it has been trouble-free and you're getting a new transmission, why not wait it out a bit to see if the new transmission can change your mind? Give it until at least the end of winter, so that you're not breaking in a new truck during the harshest weather conditions. You know how this one responds to and handles the winter.

I'm pretty sure that any rebuilt transmission at this point will be the same as the current 'fixed' version.

Would i like a Raptor for the S&G's? Yeah, but at this point the $40-50K price less my trade in can make up for that as money in the bank.

Wasn't it mid 2022 before the cdf drums were officially redesigned for the 10r80 transmission? If that is the case, just make sure the transmission in the f150 has been upgraded/replaced or you may be replaying the transmission repair again.

And if the f150 is a 3.5 Ecoboost, I'd suggest keeping the Ranger.

This - 100% this. With all the issues it seems as though all the manufacturers are having with new models, I would really hate to roll the dice. I plan on driving the wheels off this truck....

I'm curious what your concern is with the 3.5 Ecoboost? I know it is anecdotal evidence but I know two people who have them that have had zero issues with them. One of them is my son, who just passed 150k on his. The other is a friend who tows a pretty large travel trailer with it and he said it performs better than his old Suburban big block did.

Word on the street is that August 2022 is when the 10r80 got ā€œfixedā€ šŸ˜…

I've personally owned one of the 3.5 Ecoboost f150's and had the cam phasers start rattling at low mileage. Ford repaired it under warranty, but it came back later outside of warranty. Ford has gone through several redesigns of the phasers without much luck. It's a fairly common problem based on feedback from the larger Ford service department I leverage. It seems that some seem to not have the issue and others do. I did the 5k mile full synthetic oil changes and that didn't prevent it in my case unfortunately.

My buddy Scotty has a 3.5EB f150 and he said the biggest concern he had was some sort of turbo failure that can happen to them.. idk..he said he loves it and wondered why I went ranger instead of a f150…then he drove my Ranger and well he still likes his f150 but he was impressed with the Ranger.
My brother in law works as a mechanic out in San Jose and he said the 3.5 EB is junk.. however I ignore him because he’s a Chevy truck guy who drives a Honda accordšŸ˜… he doesn’t even have a truck.. anyway my two cents on that front.

For the OP..
I can see why you’d feel like you should move on.. personally I’d say if the truck is paid off and it’s already been repaired I’d keep it. Having the bad taste from the terrible experience can really hurt the enjoyment of owning it (the feeling of betrayal comes to mind.). but best choice would be what makes the most financial sense..(and that’s coming from a guy who just blew a bucket of cash on a BDS lift for his Ranger šŸ˜….). Personally before I lifted the Ranger I had thought about trading for the RR but that’s about it.

Interesting..... Thanks for explaining it.

The First Generation 3.5L EcoBoost Engines had a lot of issues. At 80k miles, my brother was looking at a lot of big repairs. Cam phasers, turbo issues, etc. and traded for a new 2.3 L Ecoboost Bronco. Gen 2 has it's issues too.
