Drove home about 20 miles majority of which is highway. Cruises 70 the whole way, over numerous over passes, and not once broke over 2k rpm’s. At that speed, the Tacoma needs to drop a gear or two, rev up, to hold speed. I’m approximately 0% disappointed letting that Tacoma go. So far I’m really loving the ranger.

The engine and transmission combo continue to amaze me. When I tell people it is only a 2.3, they can't believe it.

I give it another year before the Taco drops to #2

Its not our fathers 2.3 L ! LOL In 1978 and 1979 I worked in Ford /Lincoln dealer and if I remember correctly the 2.3L then had 88 horsepower ! Slight difference to todays version.

It very much is not. One of my concerns was the 10 speed transmission (10 speeds? Really? Won't i be shifting all the time?). I've heard from others with 8 speed transmissions that was one of the things they didn't like - they felt like the transmission was always shifting gears. With this 10 speed it may shift a lot, but many of the shifts are so smooth you don't even feel them. Or you have to REALLY be paying attention.

It has been said many times, but the powertrain in this truck is FANTASTIC. Of all the things I was looking forward to, that was not one I was expecting to like so much, but it really is one of the crown jewels on this truck.

Agree 100% that the powertrain combination in this truck is just fantastic. A joy to drive! Blows away the F-150 I got out of. ;)

Agreed. My initial plan was to tune my truck right away but I see no need to do it. Maybe a little later down the road, just for the hell of it.

I thought about that too. Maybe when it is out of warranty. I have a drop in K&N and Gibson exhaust right now. Made a noticeable difference and I am happy with it

Yep. Even my 1984 Mustang SVO and 1989 Merkur XR4Ti only made 175HP with a turbocharged 2.3L.
