Let me know if you find one for the sun visor:LOL:
It's on order, and great news - the sun visor damper is the same part number for the center counsel cover!

Hey Mel, there’s a simple fix for that….

FF483F7D-9064-4803-BFD8-9AB3F0BC69AC.png

It’s a bit of Velcro wrapped around the cable with some electrical tape below it to keep it from sliding down. The Velcro guides the cable away from the damper. You guessed it, this was all @AzScorpion ’s doing and that’s his truck in the photo.

When you think about it, and I am because I don’t have better things to do this early, the damper is a mod for the tailgate, the Velcro is a mod for the damper and the tape is a mod for the Velcro. Man, I sure hope that tape holds out or a fourth mod will be needed.
Mine was getting worn by the lower damper bracket. I put some velcro right where it contacts the bracket edge so it pushes it over it. But the cable also pinches between the lower part of the damper and the bracket when almost fully closed. I have two wear spots. Not sure how to fix that.

Hey James, that’s not good.

I know one way but it requires contributing to the local landfill and I’m sure you’d like a solution that lets you retain your tailgate assist.

Maybe @AzScorpion can help.

I added the velcro wrap in the picture you posted of my truck. It's been 3+ years and no signs of wear on mine.

Disappointed in your response. I was expecting to see that a little 303 would make it glide in there smoothly.
May be time for a new damper and 303 pusher.?

But my velcro is getting de-laminated and separating. I had no idea that velcro could even do that - so I need to search for that mod-of-the-mod that someone posted here ...

The damper does make me score higher on the Babe-Magnetron test, but once I open the tailgate and that falling apart velcro mod is spotted, well ... 'nuff said ...

I purchased one for a new '20 Ranger, took it off to re-sell when I sold the truck thinking that I would get a Maverick then gave up on that fiasco for awhile and bought another Ranger and re-installed it.
I don't know if it is needed but it sure beats having your passenger beat you to the tailgate to get golf clubs out and letting it slam down o_O
