I also removed the USB after I got the notification. It has been quite some time & I can't recall if I tried uploading the XML file from the USB or after I copied everything back to a file on the PC. I guess I could move everything back to the USB. I really don't see why it would make any difference where I'm uploading the xml file from, do you?
I tried uploading the confirmation file from the USB and also from a copy to the hard drive. Neither worked. I tried when I first did this update at Thanksgiving and again last week, no luck. =(

Plus my truck is within range of the router, but it hasn't sent that confirmation file either ...

I downloaded the update this past weekend and tried to get it loaded but it wouldn't recognize it?? It is on the USB Stick but I tried 3 times and no luck. Screw Sync. I has worked fine for two years so I guess there is no need to update. LOL Ha Ha Ford.

Was the truck running before you plugged in? Did you unzip the files before trying? Also, the USB stick should be a clean one with no other files besides the SYNC files and formatted as exFat32.

Edit: sometimes new USB sticks come with an encryption program so that only the computer writing to it, will be able to read from it. That's a reason to reformat it before trying to load files onto it.

Mine updated itself Sunday night. I've always had automatic updates on in the past, but have always had to use a USB drive to update because it has never updated itself.

I moved a trailer, so that I could park closer to the garage and hopefully keep some of the winter storm off the truck. I guess it was in some wifi sweet spot (although it has a decent signal anywhere on my driveway.) because it updated itself for the first time.

The really odd part was that the truck was in its "sleep mode" to protect the battery when I started it and drove to work Monday morning. It kept alerting me that it was there each time I started the truck until I went on a longer drive later in the day. I mostly noticed something was up because during the time I was getting the notices, the back-up chimes and lights on chimes played through some speaker in the gauge cluster instead of the audio speakers. It was just odd. I ended up with 5 notices on FordPass alerting me that the truck was in sleep mode. One sometime early Monday morning before I left for work and then another from each time I started the truck until I took the longer trip (20 miles.)

Since the longer drive that day, everything has been acting normal, although I think I'll turn the automatic updates off. It'll be USB drive from now on.

I have a bare-bones XL and when I logged into my account/app and entered the vehicle in my garage, I got the below. Not sad about it LOL, especially reading about some of the travails from other forum members on this particular update. I use my phone for navigation anyway.

This might be a dumb question but is this a trim specific thing for these updates?
I have an XL without the touch screen and the only time the truck updated was at the dealer when I was doing the paperwork. That was on October 7th of this year.
What do these updates do anyway? I've never had a vehicle this new.
Thanks in advance
I have an XL and no update was available for my XL - see my post later in the the thread.

Ok thanks.
Just saw it.
I'm not sure what these updates would do for folks with more basic trucks anyway. It is surprising how everything is electronically controlled on these things though. I guess I'm just worried that not updating would cause something to not work correctly even though that doesn't seem to make much sense.

I had the same concern as well as I try to stay on top of any maintenance as I'm keeping this truck until the wheels are used in a BC Comic..., and particularly after reading through this thread - I think there is another one which addresses this same update. In any event, I'm glad not having to deal with it.

Hey there.....was wondering if you ever had any success getting your update confirmed on the website. I haven't. The website still shows my last update as my blend date  .

Funny that you ask, I tried twice today but it still would not upload.

AND ... I'm still within wi-fi range and the truck does see my home router, so I have no idea why it won't confirm the update (the truck does show that it has this latest update).

I don't feel comfortable trying to do the update again (via USB) because everything seems okay. So I figure I'll wait for the next update and see if that one will confirm (hmm, I wonder if Ford will notify me about the next one if it thinks I didn't do this one, ugh ...).

Uploading the confirmation file is broken and Ford has no plans to fix it yet. I tried to get CS to update my account to indicate I had updated sync and they couldn’t do it. That’s when they told me the file process is broken.

Thanks for that info, I'll put this issue last on my list of concerns.
