Mine has been relatively trouble free (only 28,000 miles so far), but I played it safe and purchased an extended warranty from Flood Ford a week before my 36 months was up.
I know this thread is old, but thought I would mention my fix for this issue (saw it on You Tube). Magic Eraser brought it back to new with very little effort. I'll treat it with 303 also.
To clarify.....I meant the piece I need to replace......the piece with the gear indicators. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to remove the shift knob.
I really do think the heat had something to do with it. I used the wipe soon after starting up and it was insanely hot inside . Doesn’t say much for the finish quality. I’ve those wipes many times with no issue.

The finish on my shift plate (the piece with the gear indicators) is damaged and I want to replace it. Can anyone tell me how to remove it (i.e. what has to come off, etc) or point me to a video?
