Yes I got the email today and think the truck is already set up to auto update. Hopefully Ford keeps updates free, if/when it moves to a subscription service, I am likely outa here.
You and me both brother!

No need accessory...
Correct, wifi will stay on for a bit and download a chunk. Then get the next chunk when it's connected again. It'll keep doing this until it has the whole file.

You can send the update data back to Ford, by connecting to your home wi-fi and using the check for update in Sync. It takes maybe 5 min, but it will say your up to date, and the Ford site will show the change. I had the same issue, and this corrected it.

Thanks, I will give that a try! I haven't driven the Ranger since I did the update back in November.

You haven't driven your Ranger since November? Batteries probably dead by now unless you've had it on a tender. My God man! It needs some exercise.

The Ranger (with 108 miles) and my 23 yr old F250 (with 29,884 miles) are always on battery tenders. This time of year there is just to much salt on the roads. I can't make myself take them out so they can rust.

I use a crew cab Polaris for my run around vehicle this time of the year. It is 95% plastic so there's less metal to rot away.

I have all my vehicles on battery tenders as well. Maintains the battery and they are always ready to go. Retired and have too many man toys....so mine do not get driven a lot either.

I need to add another stall onto my garage. Like you, I'm retired and have to many toys.

The battery maintainers are a MUST. I just replaced the batteries in 2000 F250 last week. They were 13 years old, still cranked the engine over easily. I only put around 6000 miles on it over those 13 years, so the batteries were probably OK. But the age had me a bit concerned.

I got an email about the update too. Will have to check the truck. As far as I know it's always updated automatically for me.
Hmmm. Now I actually wonder if mine updates automatically also. It got a little flaky yesterday and wouldn't recognize Android Auto when I plugged it in. I had to do a soft reboot but then it seems back to normal.

Off I venture to the garage to check my version. Didn't want to go outside today, it's -6 F here.

Edit: I'm at version 3.3. Hmm, I wonder if that is the 2019 factory version... I seem to recall it being a lower 3.x number.

Yes version 3.3 is a very old version. That's what I was running before updating mine yesterday. I've never updated it in the 3.5 years I've owned it.

I wish Ford would fix their web page so that a person could upload the xml file so they knew the updates have been done. I've been trying to send the info to them for nearly a month now. I always get a error message.
U had no problems with uploading the XML file the day after I updated by USB. You just have to be sure not to remove the USB from the truck until it says 'Safe to remove USB". Then login to Ford service site, choose to browse the USB, and click on the XML found under SyncMyRide. It will have a long title as
Sync_V02N0D30_ (your VIN here).xml.

Mine says up to date but I have the ver 3 21020. I just scanned again and it says the same, up to date. Am u missing something? Lol
Does you STX have the 8in touch screen or the basic display without touch screen? There may be two different version, one for touch screen, another for basic display.

Yeah, was working last night -15 before windchill. Forgot to check on my way home.

Will be working tonight, my normal Saturday. Due to them postponing the previous night due to windchill near -50.

At least I'm off Christmas Eve!

I'll try right remember to check tonight.

I have the touch screen center display. I believe that should be the 8" touch display you're referring to.

I also removed the USB after I got the notification. It has been quite some time & I can't recall if I tried uploading the XML file from the USB or after I copied everything back to a file on the PC. I guess I could move everything back to the USB. I really don't see why it would make any difference where I'm uploading the xml file from, do you?

As long as you saved the xml file in its original state to the PC, you should be able to upload it from there.

Ford has had issues with uploading the xml file on and off for years. I was surprised when my upload worked on this latest update.

Good to know. I am copying everything back to the USB and I am going to give it a shot again.
