FYI so you are prepared if you need to do the same thing I just did….

I purchased a trial SXM audio package last year on my Fusion (and then again later on the Ranger). It is expriring now and since I almost never use it, I want to cancel the audio service but leave the complementary Travel Link and Traffic working for the remainder of that offer.

I first tried to cancel via their chat service and they told me that when they cancel the Audio, the Travel Link/Traffic will also be cancelled. Their story was that their system will not allow the other services to work without the Audio being active. I told them that it worked before without audio and there is no reason it shouldn’t be able to work now. I got nowhere and told them to leave it as-is and then called the dreaded call center. Got the same cancellation story plus the sales pitch to keep the audio active. After being told there was no manager/supervisor available, I insisted that there had to be someone I could speak to at a higher level about this issue. Miraculously, they ‘discovered’ that a supervisor would have to handle the transaction that I requested. After a total of about 45 minutes the audio was cancelled and the Travel Link/Traffic is active.

When the Ranger SXM Audio expires in a few months will have to do this again, or at least do the dance to get a better deal….

I always call to cancel just so they give me a better rate. Why can't they just renew it at the current rate?

Seems like they could save both parties involved a lot of hassle, but I guess the people at the call center need something to do?

They tried that with me also. I had a five year complimentary travel link that they tried to cancel.
I called them to correct their mistake. I have my travel link now and no radio.

They make a lot of money off people who forget about the automatic renewal following the one-year subscription. If those folks aren't paying attention to their credit card charges they can remain blissfully ignorant for many months. Thus, the dance.

Lol this never gets old. Just my humble opinion - Providing you like a few channels - then the best thing to do is to call a week before you trial expires and tell them you want to cancel. They will give you their best deal to keep you. I have been doing this since 2009. Never fails and always works. Always. I have never had a problem with that.

Now - they are fairly stupid and if you cancel the audio, you need to call in and stay on the line with them and have them confirm they are not cancelling your Travel Link. I had that fight with my wife's Explorer. They will tell you to call your dealership, your dealership will tell you they can't do anything.

$60 a year plus their garbage fees. Ends up being like $74 for the year.

I've had SiriusXM ever since my Jeep was new at the end of 2011. I like it in the Jeep because no matter how far I venture into the sticks, I still enjoy the music. Now, I have it in all three of my vehicles. (I know it is not the best audio but with my current state of hearing, its good enough). It used to be that I would have to threaten to cancel each and every time I renewed to get a good price, but this last time there was no hassle at all. I stated I wanted to renew all three and pay the $60 per year and they said: OK. No fights, didn't have to threaten, just OK. Cool. Maybe they have decided to up their customer relations.

FWIW, on my 15 Mustang it came with a 1 year complimentary Sirus Radio and a 5 year subscription to Travel Link. After the 1st year I did not intend to renew because I hardly used it but fell victim to one of their pitches for 3 months free that I could "cancel at any time" but after the free trial it would start charging my credit card until I did cancel. Well I called and cancelled and they cancelled the Travel Link that was supposed to be good for 5 years. I would call Sirus about the Travel Link and got no where, they just said to call Ford. Ford would say to call Sirus, I finally gave up.

When I got my 17 it had a 6 month trial on Sirus Radio and 5 year on Travel Link. I just let the Radio lapse and didn't respond to any offers and the Travel Link stayed active.

The Ranger came with a 3 month trial on Sirus Radio and I could not find anywhere in the Ford literature how long the Travel Link will last. Well my 3 month trial was up on 11/27 and I still have Travel Link. If I start getting renewal notices for Travel Link, I will likely renew if the cost is reasonable. Having traffic conditions integrated with the nav is useful enough to pay for.

If you pay monthly they only get you once. I don't drive near as much as I did when my kids all played sports an stuff but I hate commercials so much I keep it for around $10-12 a month. One time I did have to go without it for a month to get a better rate. Now I'm hooked an stream it on my phone an computer too for the same price.

I had a $7 a month service but it didn't include streaming an a few premium channels like NFL network an NASCAR.
