That's what I am wanting to do, be able to still open and close my retractable cover, and also allow me into the garage. When completly closed down it has to be no higher than the whale tail for garage clearance (6.5 foot door) if it can be removed easily for bed loads that's a plus.Here’s ours, we’ve had it 18 months and just spent our 16th night in it. I actually bought the 58" RCI rack as oppose to the 48" nearly everyone gets for the 5 foot bed. It works, even with C-Clamps all the way near the tailgate. Granted the metal thins out back there, but it works FYI.No, what I'm saying is the contours of the bed side interior limit how much room you actually have to install the brackets. On the 5' bed, you can't actually center the rack front to back on the bed because of the interior bed contours. I've highlighted on this image what I'm talking about. The bed brackets only fit onto the truck in the space highlighted by the blue line.

Also you can still do an over the cab platform. We've had this discussion, you just need to take initiative and build you a sub-platform to raise it to pass over height. Unistrut works wonders for this, also as the picture shows.

I may swap out for the Outpost HD rack, to lower the tent about 6" (reduce my center of gravity and wind resistance) We'll see. I do like the option of carrying longer items like kayaks over the cab with the Outpost rack.

Nope, I swapped it for the Outpost HD rack, as you can see in my profile picture. Much better, IMHO unless you want to carry items over the cab, like a kayak, canoe or lumber.
